Seemed like the best place to post this, so :princess: :flipoff2: :D

I need something that is easy for a mentally challenged short fat angry dude to learn. For example, I've had photoshop for years, but still hardly touch it's capabilities. Too much stuff to learn. I just need some basic stuff so I can send 'em out and get feedback on some ideas. I had mechanical drawing a long time ago (HS) and haven't done anything since.

Besides the program do you need anything special like a wacom tablet or anything?

Thanks :bust2:

Come on fawkers. I know some of you know more about this s***. Fess up before I gotta :slap: ya :flipooff2: Oh, and, uh.... please :D

I've only ever used AutoCad, from Autodesk $bling$ but check out these reviews and you might find something chaeper.

yeah,

i've only used site-licensed stuff from clemson, so....

autocad isn't all that bad, get a textbook if you can, that should help out.

or go take a summer class at some tech school. that would be pretty beneficial honestly

i hear that man, i can't afford summer school at all. heck, i'm barely payin rent...

Cheap easy CAD?

Junk, don't be so hard on yourself!

I about bust a gut when I saw this thread on the index. Am I the only one one who sees the humor in that?

cheap easy cad is an oxymoron without a doubt. Are you close to an community college? Usually have classes you can take...or romance the professor into giving you free lessons...

Well hell Hammerhead, I figured if you could do it, everyone could :flipoff2:

Don't need all the frickin bells and whistles, but ain't spending mucho quid on some class either. Too frickin $. So yeah, cheap easy cad. Take out cad and that describes yo momma, cheap easy :flipoff2:

well, how bout you just contract it with me?

i won't charge you much

I'm always for taking a community college class, but with CAD you never know what you're going to get. I taught CAD as a software-based curriculum. Light on the drafting standards, heavy on how to use the software. Others teach the opposite and you'll spend two months learning how to sharpen a 2H pencil just right to draw a phantom line or some such BS. You will almost certainly spend a year learning AutoCAD before being able to learn a solid modeling program that has nearly nothing to do with AutoCAD.
If you can jump right into Solidworks or Inventor, do that. A few clicks and Inventor will put your model in an orthographic view with all the appropriate annotations anyway.

Junkster, check out TurboCAD. I think you can even download a free trial.. http://www.imsisoft.com/faminfo.asp?fam=1 Next best alternative is to have a buddy that will let you borrow an older version of SolidWorks, which is just about as easy to learn but way more capable. But it sounds like you're looking for a faster learning curve then you'll get if you attempt to pick up AutoCAD, or ProE, or Unigraphics... oh another one that may work for you is Rhino, I think you can get a free trial of it too http://www.rhino3d.com/ hth..

What are you wanting to draw? if your just "sketching" go for one of the free down loads, if your wanting for more detailed work, solid model software REALLY helps making sure everything fits. Mechanical Desktop is possible to boot, but you will need alot of ram. Some of the trial versions of PRO-E can be used by reseting your clock. Check out user groups for possible "free" downloads.

If your wanting to learn for work benifits, IMHO PRO-E is the way to go, next, Catia is used for alot of automotive for its surfacing abilities, and last Mechanical Desktop....PITA

I use Solidworks all day and of course think that it is the best and easiest to learn.
They pretty much incourage installing it at home and there is no dongle needed.

We also have Solidedge which sucks.
We run Surfcam and virtual gibbs for strictly business purposes only. ;)
I think that I have the entire truck modeled by now.

Zdnet has all kinds of trial/ shareware software listed. check them out.

Come on Junk, with the money your mom is pulling in off the street corner, you should be able to pick up AutoCAD :flipoff2:

What you want is Adobe Illustrator, *everything* is scaleable with the click of the mouse. You can also trace anything. AI uses Vector Graphics so no scaling issues. The app is easy to use and there are many sites out there with free info. I could show you everything you need to know to get into trouble in less than 1 hour. There maybe free tryouts on Adobe.com

BTW Photoshop really wont cut it as a CAD :)

Auto-Cad LT should have more that you will ever need. Around $500 bucks if you can't find a free download.

;) FastCad32.....easy to use, not too hard on the wallet, relative to others out there. Written by Evolution computing...
No affiliation....just like it.
