My 2003 was in today for a 160K checkup and the tech noted my splash shield was missing/torn off. I knew it was gone as I had to tear it off a few months ago when it began dragging the ground after some minor offroading. I'm looking for a pro/con for this item, as what I've read on here so far has been "don't need it". If that's so, why is it there? Clearly the dealer would like to put another one there ($900). If I leave it off, is there something better to place to protect?

My LC is stock, and a daily driver with some minor offroading on the bunny trails/low water.

Any input appreciated.

Check out Slee's skid plate - steel or aluminum - selection.

Protection is a relative term probably best determined by your definition of "bunny trails" or "minor offroading".

For example, the splash plate is about to come off on my LC (2 attachment points broken, and one broken bolt leaves 5 bolts left), so I'm planning to replace w/ Slee sometime in the next 6 to 9 mos.
