I just bought a set of BFG ATs with about 10k on them mounted on Tundra steelies. I am about to have them mounted on my 100 series alloys, and I would like to have them mounted blackwall out. They had been run white letters out.

In an X rotation pattern, tires change direction of rotation, so I would think I would be ok doing this. I would expect them to be loud for a while as they even out, but otherwise, this should be fine, right? I have my fathers words of caution about this ringing in my ears but I think dear old dad might be wrong about this one.

I'm probably as old as your father and I also remember the stern words of caution about not changing direction of rotation when rotating tires. All sorts of bad stuff could happen - increased tread wear, noise, belt separation ...

Modern wisdom is quite different: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=43&

I have the BFG AT T/A's and follow the 5-tire rotation pattern for Rear and 4-wheel drive vehicles:

No problems. You will be fine changing yours from whitewall out to blackwall out.

The deed is done! They ride great. Thanks for the encouragement.
