I couldn’t get my new to me GX470 transfer case to engage. I tried it several times. I never could hear it trying to engage. I pulled the plug on the electrical connection and it was full of gear oil! I cleaned it out and guess what it worked! Now a week later it will not work again and guess what it’s full of gear oil again. What is going on? Has anyone ever had this?

Common actuator o ring leak. There are a couple good write up on how to repair it here.

Thank you! I tried searching for all kinds of keywords and couldn’t find it. Now I know what to search for.

Sounds like you have an 0ring AND the little actuator seal leak...this means your entire actuator is full of oil and seeping into the connector. Check your diff oil level until you can source and repair with new orings.
