I’ve been evaluating options since July while my phone has been sitting patiently on the transmission hump. I’ve read a number of threads (including for 100s and 80s) and took all the suggestions/solutions/concerns into account. Can you tell that I’m picky?
I ended up with a somewhat unique solution.
What I didn’t want for aesthetic reasons:
•windscreen, a-pillar or dashtop mount
•something unnecessarily large (a large cig lighter mount, something from the tranmission hump, or seat bolt)
•no holes in the dash unless the drilled piece could be easily replaced
What I did want:
•reasonably solid
•good visibility and reach
•reasonably aesthetically pleasing and well designed
•Good hold for the bumpy ride
Options I considered:
•Kenu vent mount - doesn’t work with 60 series vents
•removing the vent attachment from one of the magnetic vent mount kits (like Wizgear, see amazon) and mount it to the dash somehow - can’t put a magnet in my phone case if I upgrade and want to use inductive/wireless charging
•panavise and proclip - universal mounts and mounts for 80s and 100s - They didn’t have one that would clearly work for a 60 series. I’m sure panavise did have something that would but their website is horrible.
•ram mount - discounted based on my aesthetic requirements
Well, I ended up with a ram mount and am really happy. The catch is I assembled the pieces myself rather than relying on one of their kits. I’ll get a picture with my phone (iPhone 6 plus) mounted the next time the wife is in the cruiser.
Mounted it to the panel next to the heater controls and added a screw through that goes into the dash to keep it secure. I’ll probably add some slimmer hardware to clean it up as I just used what I had laying around.
And eek, that cig lighter area looks gross especially for a truck that’s never been smoked in
