I did some searching, but couldn't find any flat-out responses from owners. Can anyone attest or offer some insight as to the quality of the grilles and headlight doors from CCOT or SOR? They're substantially cheaper than the OEM units, but you often get what you pay for...
My original front grill on the 60 lasted 20 years until the chrome started getting yucky and turning green and the whole thing began to look crummy.
I purchased an aftermarket front grill 5 years ago. It now looks a bit worse in 5 years than the original looked in 20... but they're very inexpensive... so no biggie.. just get another one.
Yeah i got an aftermarket one as well. Looks nice now. Definately quality issues but not much you can do if there is no OEM available. And i'm not a black out everything fan at all.
I got mine from Cruiser Corps.
Frankie's grill came from SOR. Tollerably good. It did not come with the metallic charcoal layer like the OEM, just chrome on charcoal colored plastic. From a distance you can't tell. SOR said the later OEM were of lower quality than the originals and not worth the extra $$. They convinced me to buy aftermarket even though the OEM was still available then. I'm content with it. It was noticeably lighter in weight than OEM.
As Joe said, we don't really have a choice any longer.
FYI - when I priced out a set from cruiser parts.net this week they said the doors were back ordered and in the future would only come as a set with the grill. I don't know if that will become the standard package from everyone as inventory gets replaced or if that was just one vendor. I have no doubt they are all getting the parts from the same factory regardless of the labeling.
