We're back from our week in Puerto Vallarta and then 4 days in Ft. Worth. I'm trying to get caught up. The vacation was great. I saw a lot of neat stuff, snorkeled, saw humback whales, hunted starfish in a tidal pool, visited a fishing village, shopped at a grocery store, rode the city busses , .....

In general just had a great time. I was disappointed that I did not see any Land Cruisers, not even new ones. I did see a new Hilux and a lot of econobox 'pickups' (Chevy, Ford and VW emblems) Here are a few photos.

Mark -

Beautiful pics on the landscape photos. Looks like you had great weather. On the auto pictures - interesting. It looks like they get very different models down there - like VW trucks. We haven't seen those here for many years. I also liked the photo of the old Porsche.

Welcome back Marc!

Seems like you've been gone a month or two, not just a week. Ryan and Rory ran into someone that drives a blue FJ62 that knows you from somewhere. Details in another thread. We have arranged for you to attend a Dale Carnegie course at the club's expense. Details to follow.

-Mike-

I can use all the help I can get to win friends and influence people (thank you Wiki). And since the club will pay for it, what the heck. I haven't gotten to the thread where this mystery blue 62 owner claims to know me.

Mike's just trying to get you into trouble again.

See "Ever heard of this guy?"

At least I had no part of that thread that had to be closed.

Somos fue en PV, tambien

Marc, when were you guys there? Jennie and I were there the week of Jan 6-12. We timeshared it up in Nuevo Vallarta but took the buses to town practically everyday, passing the PV Toyota dealership each way. They had Tacomas and Tundras, an FJ, and a LC lineup (all in white) out front, but the lot was filled with Echo-type things and vehicles similar to the photos you posted. We did the El Eden canopy tour on the 10th. We had to bag the snorkeling and whalewatching because Jennie had a MS flareup and was too dizzy for boat rides. Rented a 2007 Heep Wrangler one day and drove north up the coast as far as Rincon de Guayabitos--nice to get outta gringolandia and see a bit of real mexico! I say"gringolandia" mainly due to the PV $$$ prices, but my impression was that in PV and NV, there were just as many (if not more) wealthy mexican tourists from Mexico City and Guadalajara, they were just as fat as the gringos, and they were more obnoxious!

What a coincedence. We were there Jan. 9 - 16. We stayed at Los Tules which is in the Hotel Zone about 1/2 way between downtown and the marina. We attending a timeshare presentation in Nuevo Vallarta at the Grand Mayan on 9/12. We didn't buy anything but we did get 2 free bottles of Tequila, a free jungle tour and 3,000 pesos (~$300). We also did our best to avoid the high prices most of the time, riding the bus everywhere and walking around the city in El Centro and the Romantic Zone. I recall passing that same Toyota dealership near the turnoff to NV. I didn't pay attention to the models that were the same as we get in the US. I did notice the Hilux and a funny looking mini-bus/van. I saw a couple FJ Cruisers around town, but again, didn't interest me that much.

It's funny you mention the vacationing Mexicans. There were a lot of them at the place we stayed. It's a large complex (several acres) with multiple 3-story condominium units. It was a mix of full-time residents, part-time residents and timeshare/hotel rentals. About 30% of the people I saw there were Spanish speakers. It really was a different experience from a typical high-rise hotel.
