Carpet on driver/passenger seat floor soaked (2 Viewers)

Hi all,

Does anyone have this problem? Is there a fix?

I have a 97 LC with sunroof.

If the seal around the the sunroof is worn, would water entering the sunroof edge drain into the driver and passenger carpet area? Where is the sunroof drainage tube? Does the tube drain into the wheel well or through the interior foot wells?

Also, there are rubber stoppers in the driver and passenger floor. Should these be permanently removed to allow excess water to drain?

BW - Welcome - do a search on this over the last 365 days and watch the list of details grow.

This is a common problem. The likely problem is that one of the 4 sun roof drains is clogged and causing overflow to run down to the carpet. The fix is to open your sun roof and 'ream the holes' - ideally with some long wire. There are two holes at the frnt and 2 at the rear. Make sure you do all 4.

They are quite high capacity - the tubes are as thick as your thumb. Pour some water down each hole and check that it is being purged properly. The rears exits just aft of the rear wheels and the frnt flush into the panel just aft of the frnt tires.

Do not remove the rubber plugs.

If this doesn't work, you may have a kinked drain tube (it shares space with a wiring harness) or one of the tubes may have come unplugged from the top.

In addition to Hugh's excellent advice, there are some small slits in the rocker panels that can clog with dirt causing water to stay in the rockers and slosh around. There are pics in the archives; try searching on "slit" or "rocker panel."
