Carfax says previously stolen

Looking at a 2008 Land Cruiser at my local Lexus dealer. 26k miles, looks like it spent it's entire life at some guy's summer house. However, Carfax said the vehicle was once stolen in 2009 but recovered. Anyone know where I can get a police report? I searched the web but no luck. Also, what should I have my mechanic look for before I buy it?

Hmmmm.

Tip One: Count the wheels. Less than 4 is a problem.
Tip Two: Check engine.... is it there?

Hasn't gone far in 5 years. Sounds like a steal.

You would probably have a bit of trouble getting a police report.

You could try your insurance company, if you let them know the details of the vehicle and that you are thinking of insuring it with them, they would be able to find out for you.

Otherwise just look in the log book and contact the original owner, I've done that before
