Sept 1972 fj40 with F motor...... Does anyone know where the drain screw is on the carburetor?

Return spring missing
Accel cable too tight
Idle speed screw turned in too far
Fast idle/choke screw misadjusted

Did you put the settings on the screws for mixture, idle .... back where you found them - yes its clean now and more stuff is flowing at those settings; no - well time to make some adjustments. Is this your first carb rebuild? Did you carefully inspect the needles for adjustment to make sure they didn't have big rings crushed into the taper (makes adjustment hyper critical) or damaged seats where they screw into? How was fit on the mating parts surfaces - it could be leaking fuel internally - does the exhaust stink like it has raw gas in it. Float set correctly - too high it could leak Needle valve or seat got crud from tank, fuel line or pump not closing correctly
