I just rebuilt the carb on my 79 FJ. When I press the accelerator pedal the carb makes a suction sound and the engine starts to die. It starts and idles fine. Is it too lean, too rich or what? I know, I should have used a pro. Need help guys. :-\

Sounds like the only fuel you are getting is from the idle circuit. Your primary might not be working. Try choking it when stepping on the accelerator. Is there fuel 1/2 way up in the window on the bowl?

Sounds like the primary "slow" circuit isn't working. Either you didn't clean it out completely or you didn't blow it out after dipping it. Take apart and do it again and make sure that the passages just above the primary throttle plate are clear and that the slow jet isn't clogged. It could also be that the accelerator pump isn't working, but that is easy to visualize with the air cleaner off. You should see a strong squirt from the nozzle when you open the throttle.

Thanks guys. Sounds like my accelerator pump because it seems to be sticking and not pumping well.
