Gooseneck will work fine w/ a 2500HD. I've seen it many times with 25'+ trailers.

I've seen it many times also but it also greatly increases the risk of things going wrong. I've seen many bad accidents from this on the way to pismo and glamis in cali with this kind of combo. We've also had a few things like this gone at work. Most likely Jon, who is a careful driver, would be fine but like I said increased risk.

I would think that a gooseneck or 5th wheel would certainly be better on a short bed than a tag along setup would be. Obviously a longer wheelbase truck is prefered for towing, but in either case a gooseneck or 5th wheel distributes the load much better.

I'm no trailer expert but what I've read while doing research is that my truck shouldn't have a problem pulling/handling a 5th wheel. While a long bed would be ideal, properly setup and the weight distributed (i.e. two rigs) would be fairly safe even with my wheelbase.

But it'll be a long time before I even consider a 5th wheel setup on my truck. I'd rather invest the money into other things at the moment. If I was pulling a trvel trailer then it would be essential.

With any trailer weight distribution is very important . I carried a front heavy load one time in my life and that is all that took. it was only for about 10 miles but that was the worst 10 miles i have ever towed.

Finally Made a Purchase

I picked up my trailer yesterday. I was impressed they were able to build it as quickly as they did. Tommy at Kaufman was great to work with and helped get me on the 'priority list' so it was finished in time for the STR next week.

My only comments is the wiring. It isn't a hack job but I would have liked to see heat shrink vs. crimped connections. No biggie I can mix it myself. I'd also opt for the adjustable tongue if I did it again...that way you don't have to fiddle with finding a ball mount with the appropriate drop.

Looks nice man! Maybe just the angle - but seems you could fit the 40 plus another!

Looks great man! If you don't mind, how much did they charge you? Borrowing the neighbor's trailer is cool and all, but it would be better to have one of my own.

2440 out the door. Only option was the spare tire mount and rim/tire. Wood deck same length and GVWR was the same price.

You can look on their website and if you pic the trailer up at their Lexington facility then subtract 100.00 from the list price.

Nice trailer. I had a 14k Kaufman and it pulled great. Yes their wiring leaves a bit to be desired, but I never had an electrical failure. I did end up replacing the cheap lights with LEDs including markers.

BTW for those talking about pulling a 5th with a 3/4 ton, properly loaded you will exceed the GVWR of the truck if you get any where near the max trailer load. With 25% of the trailer weight on the truck, it doesn't take much to overload a 2500's listed GVWR.

Looks like mine. I got mine a little closer in Reaford. I got the electric brakes on both brakes since my 3/4 ton truck is already wired for electric brakes. Mine also had the break-away box. I went with the wood deck though since it will serve dual duty as a work trailer to haul wood and yard supply.

Nice!
Are you trying to edge out your friends with toy accumulation? ;) heh
Someday, I will have enough land to actually have a trailer bigger than 6'!

My trailer has a dovetail ramp, I'd prefer it to be straight. We are planning on switching to a goose neck setup. Seems I will be required to haul horses too. So with a horse trailer and a car trailer to haul the goose neck is preffered.

If anyone is thinking about a trailer in 8 months to a year I should have one.
