This is the second time I have posted this idea...The first time was when it was really starting to get hot though...

Anyone interested in getting together in October for a trip to this place...The weather would be great and the scenery looks nice..All we would need to do is plan a date, confirm some people and funds, and make plans for a guide to go into the canyon..

Post your ideas...

I'm taking the 4th thru the 8th off just because and have no firm plans yet. That would be neat to see, but my funds are limited. Any clue how much for a guide and all that?

I have been watching a thread on Expedition Portal in the Planned Adventures section.. I was thinking of going with them so I have been watching the thread..They should be posting more details after they pay for the guide, so we could gauge from that the costs that would be involved.

I don't think it would be more than $50 a vehicle, and I am guessing high here (I hope)....

I am definitely interested.

guides are $15/hour for a single vehicle. there is an $5/hour additional
charge for each additional vehicle (up to five). more than five vehicles
and you need another guide...

update ---

How about October 13th and 14th? Anybody interested in these dates?

We can drive up Friday and be ready to get a guide Saturday morning...or drive up early Saturday morning..

I can call the visitors center for more details, but from an another thread on Expedition Portal it looks like they reserved the guide on Friday and had her ride with them for Saturday...

Start posting up so we can get something together and drive up together if possible..

I might be up for this - if I'm in town. I have a tenative trip to Washington DC for work Oct 10 - 12 that would override this. It is a long drive from Phx there so I would not recommend the Saturday drive up. There are several motels to stay at - the Thunderbird and a Holiday Inn that I remember 4 certain.

fyi from the parks website:

Details
To drive on the canyon bottom, a 4-wheel drive vehicle, a Park Service permit and an authorized Navajo guide are required. The fee is $15 an hour for 1 vehicle, $5 an hour for each additional vehicle with a 5-vehicle limit per guide.

Oct. 20-21 anybody? I can't go the 13-14th either but I'm interested in going up there.

if more people can go the 20th and 21st I would go too....since I have exactly 1 rig going so far on the 13th and 14th (it's mine)
