can't shift into 4th gear

Hey all,

I'm a little new with mini truck trannys. I have an 83 mini. It will shift into all the other gears but it won't go into 4th. Any ideas what this problem can be.

It could be many things. Do you have a manual?

I've got a Haynes. I have the L52. I talked to a dealer today and they have some kind of kit, but I think it is mainly gaskets. The shifter has been really sloppy since I've had it.
I checked some bone yards today but know luck.

I am not very sure of your specific tranny...is it a toploader or do you have external linkage? If it is a toploader, you may have a similar issue as did mine where the shifter seat is disintegrated and causing shifting issues. But typically, it causes the gears to pop out not your issue.

Yes it is a toploader. I guess I'm going to pop that top and take a look.
I did read somewhere about the popping out of gear when the top shift rail stuff gets to sloppy.
