This afternoon, I unlocked the door and pulled on the door handle to get out of the cruiser. I felt something give when I pulled on the door handle. The door would not open. I had to roll down my window and grab the handle on the outside to get out of the cruiser. It's like having child door locks on the driver's side door. I can't wait until I pull into the parking garage at work tomorrow. I did not have time to pull off the door panel tonight, since I have to figure my taxes. I found a few threads detailing how to remove the panel, and will try sometime this week to see what broke. I would like to know if anybody else had this problem and how much it is going to cost me to fix.

I haven't pulled the drivers door, but the tailgate, like many other doors, now has a rod with serrations in it which drops into a plastic clip. If the mechanisim is dry or tight, the serrated rod will pull through the plastic and reposition itself at the end of the stroke instead of the start. In other words, instead of a fixed pin and socket on a pivot, a variable one is normaly used, made of plastic, so that larger tolerances in auto manufacture can be accomadated. I would guess an easy fix, but of course I could be very wrong! My .02 worth

We had something like that with our 3rd gen 4runner, but on it you couldnt open the door at all. We ended up taking it to the dealer. I think it was something with the auto locks or something. They had to pull the front deal to get the panel off.
