I am about to pull the trigger on a 2013 LC with 130k miles located in Memphis at a dealer. I am having trouble finding someone in the area to do a PPI. If I cannot find anyone would you guys suggest buying without a PPI or are there specific items I can ask the dealer to inspect and base the decision on the results of their inhouse mechanic?

Thanks!

Toyota dealer?

If so, I would ask them to put it up on the lift and take 15-20 pictures of the undercarriage (most importantly, the KDSS valve screws). I would hear out what their mechanic says, but take it with a grain of salt. Even this is a bit risky, as not all dealerships are created equal. If it's not a Toyota dealer, that's a no-go.

Ideally, you should either fly out and check it out yourself, get an independent PPI, or at least have a local mudder check it out for you (in exchange for a few buck or choice beverages).

Appreciate the advice. I am trying to find all the above but no luck yet today.

I bought mine earlier this year without a PPI. All I did was watch the Toyota Car Care Nut video about common problems on 200 series, and then checked the things that he had mentioned. Mostly it was specific places to look for leaks. I had them put the vehicle on a lift so I could check for rust too.

In the end, I guess it worked out? Though I suppose I won’t really know for a few years. I felt a little bit more confident because my LC had 80,000 miles and had regular maintenance listed on CarFax.

That said, I did miss the fact that the power door lock actuators were bad on both front doors. Not a huge deal - I ended up buying the parts and replacing them myself.
