The idea is to get out there one last time before it gets too hot. It now does look like highs will be around 90 so not exactly cool weather but nights will be a comfortable 60ish degrees. For once we won't be freezing around the fire or when we wake up.

The Plan:

Friday, depart after work and set up camp at Fish Creek. Dinner, we can do burgers, easy stuff. We will keep the tires aired up in prep for Saturday's adventure.

Saturday, depart around 9ish to some good old exploring. For those of you that recall the search I put together for Maya Millete, we ended the day with 2 areas un-searched. Curiosity has gotten the better of me so the plan is to leave camp, get back on 78, left on S2, and then back to dirt. The areas of particular interest are highlighted in yellow below. We can throw up the drones and have some out-of-car time.

After that we can head in the usual way, down the drop off, and back to camp. Dinner shall be epic.

Sunday, breakfast shall also be epic. We can then pack up and for those interested head to the other side of Split Mountain and do some shooting on BLM land.

I am guessing an early afternoon departure, home in time for dinner.

Attendees:
- Elripster + 3 kids.
- Phulcum + kid

Sweet!

Considering this. Maybe I can drag out the trailer for fun.

Where are those waypoints? Valecito wash? Instead of heading out to Fish Creek on Friday, then backtracking quite a bit on Saturday morning, what about camping in Blair Valley or Pinion Mtn Rd on Friday?

It would be fun to drive all the way up Fish Creek west to the base of Pinion dropoff (heart attack hill). That's a fun drive.

I have never been to Blaire or Pinion. Do you have a location?

Frank

They are both off the S2 just south of the 78.

Pinyon Mtn Rd is how you get to the "Squeeze" and then Pinyon drop off (Heart attack hill). Blair Valley is just south of there close to where Oriflamme Canyon comes out on the S2. Pinyon Mtn Rd has some dispersed camping spots, and Blair Valley has some designated spots with fire pits IIRC.

Are there any spots that might offer shade in the afternoon?

Frank

Little Blair Valley looks like it's about 2,700 - 2,800' so might be a bit cooler.

IIRC there are some small trees on Pinyon Mtn Rd towards the top, but probably not much in the way of shade.

There is a nice shaded grove of trees at the bottom of Oriflamme not too far from the S2 next to a creek. But that seems to me the ideal spot to encounter a mountain lion.

I can’t join, but I did camp right at the end of little Blair valley the other weekend. Great spot, enough room for 4 rigs I’d say. Plenty of rocks for the kids to climb on.

That could work.

So this time we'll stick with the plan. My sister is coming to meet us in her 2WD Sprinter and she knows where fish creek is. However, since it won't take long to drive the washes we will probably swing up there and check it out. That place looks great and needs a trip so we'll keep an eye on that towards the end of the year.

So, it looks like it will be 100 deg out there this weekend. No one has committed so am going to cancel.
