Folks, we have taken on a hefty review of our club bylaws. They were very archaic, patched together from many generations of word processor platforms, repeated / folded back on itself, contradicted itself, .. etc.... what is attached is an attempt to use one consistent format, state information only one time, and update to match the culture, precedents, and vehicle tech of the times.

We will put up a poll later in the month to ratify in advance of the last meeting of the year which will also be the last meeting with the present leadership Bud excepted. If you can spare the time, please review and post up any concerns or additions. If you would like to keep those concerns private and contact me off line, that is Ok, regardless from where the input comes, we will do our best to incorporate it.

Ultimately club members will vote via poll to ratify or keep the existing bylaws. I have attached both for comparison.

Frank

I added my comments directly to Frank. it would be great if everyone could read the updated by-laws and give input or a thumbs up. The modernization of these laws is long overdue.

I did read through it today. Good job on harmonizing the document Frank.

I noted a few minor typos and errors in the Appendix D Communication section, the main one being that the National Calling Frequency for the 2 meter ham band is 146.520 MHz. Generally speaking this is a frequency to be avoided for group communications since many hams monitor it. That said, since many hams monitor that frequency it can be a good frequency to consider for emergencies, but honestly there are probably better options than ham or FRS/GMRS comms for actual emergencies.

One item not discussed in the communications appendix that is worthy of noting is that of emergency satellite communicators such as the Garmin InReach, SpotX or Zoleo that can provide communications to request aid, supplies or emergency assistance. I'd go so far as to suggest that any group run that leaves cell phone range should require at least one such device in the run group.

Good catches Bud. I'll add a blurb about the satellite comms. Maybe we can word to strongly encourage vs require?

Speaking of emergency preparedness, while the By Laws mention a first aid kit, they don't delineate recommended contents of such a kit. Some years ago a very comprehensive first aid kit contents list was circulated; maybe that list should be incorporated into this document as an appendix? I thought there was a fairly major first aid kit circulating in the group? Maybe club owned? While most of us carry some minimal first aid kit I can attest that I should have been better prepare on my last Death Valley trip... I am now.

Let's put that into the appendix.

Does anyone have a list of first aid kit items? I have a kit but just trust it comes with the right stuff.

Frank I thought that maybe @Justsendit might have compiled the list I had a copy of. I was well done and had different categories of items for different levels of first aid treatment. I recall he was handing the list out at one of the Mike's BBQ meetings... been looking around my room here, but can't seem to find it.

Bud, I'm probably not the most qualified when it comes to first aid. I'd say the @Overlandeffex would be able to give the best recommendations when it comes to what people should carry?

No doubt Justin; as a firedude Jeff is surely the most qualified among us. I wish I could find the list that was circulated at the meeting so long ago.
