belive it or not i got a fuel filter here in town. changed it out and still the same.

ran it with out the air filter and same.

It has to be something with the pump. You didn't say you were leaking anything so my guess would be the pump is dying (or if there is 2 pumps, one of them has died). The other thought would be a clogged screen on the fuel tank pickup.

Oooh! Have you tried running it with the fuel cap off?

yes i did try with the cap off, but that was before i changed the filter..... i will try

same...

do you know any good diesel mechanics? or even one that would be around on the long weekend?

thnx Dan

Yep, you might talk to some shops locally- you might find a mobile diesel mechanic, maybe talk to someone driving a logging truck, careful though, you are right by the I-5 and there are a lot of opportunists. I would suspect filters (you've done that) is there more thank one? Bad fuel, water contamination, bad lift pump or maybe an air leak? If it happened right after a fill up then I would be suspicious of a bad tank of fuel or sucking up H20. Maybe junk in the pickup in the tank too..
No gas pumped in there either? BTW you can pump your own diesel in Oregon, just not gas. You're still a couple hours out from here otherwise I might have some good folks to call for ya.

Have you tried pulling the return line, placing it in a container and running it for a bit? This will help you know if its a fuel starvation/pump/pickup problem. Was the truck loosing power? Smoking a bunch? What where you doing prior to this?

Matt

When I changed the filter the fuel seemed good. I have pumped all my own diesel sofar. I have noticed seepage out of the head gasket area on the pump side. Tomorrow I will check to make sure the head is torqued to spec... I will be heading north in the am. I also have a lead on a possible pump problem fix.

Thanks for the support guys!!!!

Dan

Hey guys, I braved the I-5 with my wounded rig and drove straight home to Canada. Truck is now resting at EBI cruiser parts awaiting a new injector pump.

So much for our oregon coast holiday!!!

Gotta take the good with the bad sometimes. We're all pleased you made it home OK and that you had a mechanical issue requiring money and parts- instead of having been involved in a horrible traffic accident with damages, injuries. Sucks having it happen on a nice trip though.( I know the feeling) Better luck next time and let us know when you're coming so we can provide beer and help- or help and beer, whichever you'd

Glad you made it home safely! Reason for another vacation at least

ugghh

i should have just left it in oregon and let you guys fight over it :p

Sorry man. Would have been fun to meet you (under different circumstances). If your ever back down here let us know.

yeah, really.. $1200+ $400+$1000+$100 plus labor, right? More? the cost of owning a diesel ;).. I'm figuring for domestic stuff. If I could afford and obtain I wouldn't mind running a Toy-diesel. They make up for fuel economy in other ways. Hope it comes out OK.
