Just picked up a set of 70 suspension seat bases (free!!) I presently have a 198* LJ70 with non- suspension seats..can I just swap out bases???

Yes and no.. You will need to drill some holes in the floor pan as the bases are slightly different in the mount points. If you pull the carpet you should be able to see some dimples where the holes would normally go. Also from memory there are some spot welded towers which need removing.
I think there is another thread in here on this very subject with photo's from me...
Also many others who have gone before you.. Search the forum.
Here is one such hit..

I am not really fan of these suspension seats. They tend to loosen in the slider rails and rattle when not occupied. And squick like piglet too. I tried to grease the joints and moving parts but didn't work.

Sound like you need a bigger stereo.... LOL

I dont think I have ever owned a landcruiser (and there have been MANY) that didnt squick and rattle...isnt that in the design ????? :hhmm: So even if your not off road..the sound effects make you think you are ??

Having completed this conversion there are several things that need to be done.

I got Mot to score me the floor crossmember from toyota for the suspension seats- cheap but took a while to get. (forward of console across the tranny hump)

I cut off the two rear seat mounts and as stated drilled holes in floor for suspension bases.

I also realized that the lower SEAT frames are different and took those along with the bases to make them fit up. The non suspension seat bases are uneven and will require cutting down the outside rail support to make them flat if you don't have the metal seat base.

Carpet is a little sloppy as it was molded for the non suspension floor but overall the seats work well. I replaced the $4 bushing in back pivot to make the rattling stop.

I assume you saw my thread?

I ended up buying suspension seat bottoms... but never installed them. I installed the old seat by swapping the LH and RH seat sliders and rivetting a small piece of steel to the bottom of the original frames. Been like that for years now.

Yes...yes I did, wish I had before starting this idea...have a set of suspension seat pans lined up..so hopefully this will make life a bit easier

Thanks
