Hi All,
I have the 77' FJ40 my dad bought new when I was in 2nd grade. I don't know how many times the odo turned on this vehicle, but it sat for a year and last weekend I gave her a partial tune-up, took the top off and have been driving her around (with some off-road included).

Tomorrow I'm taking her to get a new exhaust system b/c it's rusted all to hell. I've ordered new points, rotary cap, etc, plug wires, adjusted the valves and think I may need the carb rebuilt.

Then I need to find someone to take the tub off and treat the frame and cut out the rust and get her looking right. I don't want her "restored", but want the rust taken care off and made presentable. Any suggestions for folks to do the carb rebuild and body work? I emailed Jim C about the rebuild b/c I don't know anyone close to me.

Can you tell me a bit more about the club? It seems like most of you are from the G'ville, Clemson area? Do any of you live down this way and what do you get together to off-road, etc?

(This pic is about 3 years old - the rust on the bottom of the doors and fenders is worse than this pic indicates.

We have members up your way but most of us are Greenville area etc. I am in Pickens. We definitely wheel. The club just got back from GSMTR and "Over the Mountain" is next. We actually are sponsoring/heading this event up. We try to meet every first Saturday of the month to talk shop, get a bite to eat and make fun of chuck(club president)! We usually do about four events a year if you include the annual trip to black balsam and our yearly annual meeting at Aunt Sues. More than welcome to attend.

As for the work on your 40 Marshall Shepard aka "trollhole" is your best bet. I run his carb, he has rewired my fj60 and installed sliders as well. He does not know it yet but probably going to have to do some frame work on a mini for me as well.

I'm from Fort Mill but moved to Knoxville not long ago. Definitely contact Marshall. Also, get in touch with Cirbo. He's in FM too and knows his way around a 40. There are others in the Charlotte area as well, but most are members of Old North State. Cheers!
