Hey y'all,
Short on time to research old threads, but.....
If I am careful on removing the front brake pads/shims for a replacement of pads, can I clean & re-use the anti-sqeal shims or should I replace w/ new?

The FSM suggests that you need to replace shims when replacing pads.
I have read many threads and I have opted to stick with the 80 pads instead of 100s, so space shouldn't be a factor. (In spite of the mega-controversy....however, CruiserDan had the most compelling points,,,anyway...)

Regarding my choice of pads:
In the southeast, we have an old saying: "Dance with the one that brung ya!

I think the shims come free, if you are a smart shopper. :flipoff2:

be more specific. Some folks call the fit kit anti squeal shims even though they aren't. If you are talking the vented and non-vented shim that goes between the caliper and the pad then yes. If you are talking about the clips attached to the pads then ozzy only if using the same pads over again.

Chip - I think I know what you're talking about...yes, you can reuse those. I clean them up a little with brake cleaner first, then put them on the new pad.

my truck came with odd bonded shim on midas pads, no way to transfer them to the new oem pads, no noise or squeal with bare 100 fronts 80 rears.

the cross pins had a few rust spots on them as did the clips on the rear pads, I think Dan sells a hardware kit that I need to get that will come with shims?

The pads, according to Toyota, used to come as a kit including the shims (flat one and vented one-inner/outer), but customers only wanted the pads, so they started selling the shims separate. When I pull them out, i will inspect clean & re-use, if they appear still good. Thanks for the info.
Chip
