Need the room for a seat.

you could, in theory, make the cut and forget about it. OR you could make the cut and close it off and then add material on the sides to reinforce it back to roughly the original strength.

No busload of Nuns will die if I cut and forget?
Don't see alot of Nuns around anymore, hate to lose any.
I guess I could add some metal to the sides. Good plan for later.

So swazall and foam.
Roger. This project moves forward tomorrow. Audi seats going in!
Thanks for the push. Pushers

+1 for bashing that piece in. You can also use a chisel and split the metal before bashing. I did that when I replaced my driver's seat with one from a B8 Audi A4...those seat rails are spaced so wide!

I've taken way more material than that out of mine and it hasn't exploded yet. I'm honestly not sure if it's an important structural member for the body, or if it's just a handy spot for Toyota to attach the seats and center console. I'm also installing Audi A4 seats. They're ungodly comfortable, but super tall in the front and have wiiiiide rails.
