I found two of these items behind the rear int. panels on a '66 45LV. There is one on each side with those tubes going down.They do not seem to connect to any thing as the top plate has two sheet metal screws and lifts right out. Any ideas?

They do not seem to be connected to the tank. They are rather rusty and terminate with in the body shell.
