Camry heater or "the sauna" problem

The next Camry problem, seems like the heat has quit working as well as it should. Now we have had no winter to mention in S. Carolina, but that heater generally will roast you like a desert wind. It actually seems to work better on fresh air than recirc, and the heat seems to be humid on recirc, enough so that the windows get all fogged up. (It is not fogging the windshield) The few times that we have had frost the windshield is not clearing very fast and that has been what has clued me in to the problem the most.

Camry's have a problem with air lock in the heater systems, check your anti freeze level, find a steep hill or just jack the front up and put it on stands to get the front higher than the heater,pull the rad cap( BE CAREFULL) start the engine put the heater on hot the air locked up in the heater should come out after a little while, keep topping off the anti freeze to keep the level up. I did this a couple of times and worked on mine (dealer recomended). This should work if nothing else is wrong with the cooling system like the thermostat not opening.
 
Here is more info., when at higher rpm (highway speed) you get heat and at idle it tapers off real quick and blows luke warm at best. Gauge on the dash has a good deal of fluctuation which is new also, all in good range but just more movement than normal. Ideas?

did you try the remedy i posted?

Just finished a few minutes ago, a few bubbles but no major burps or anything cool like that. Thermostat never opened though for a good 10-15 minutes as the coolant level never went down, in fact as the engine got hot it sort of weeped out of the radiator. Main thing is the car does not overheat, so for pure interest I might just replace the thermostat.

Hi, Evaporation in the system it happens over time causes air to take the place of anti freeze and for some reason it gets trapped somewhere down by the heater so I was told , my camry did this and I used the 'REMEDY" and it's been fine ever since.

Your Camry most likely needs a new water pump. Toyota's service schedule for pre-1997 Camry's calls for timing belt and water pump replacement together at 80,000 miles.

Fogged windows on older Camry's are very common, but it has nothing to do with the coolant system. Check the AC evaporator drain. First, start the car and turn the fan on high. With fresh air coming in (no recirculate), look under the passenger side front of the dash right in the center, pull the carpet back a little and you'll feel/see a hose going through the floorboard. Gently pull the hose forward and off the housing nipple, no water should run out. If you do get water, blow through the hose to clear it (or pull it out and clean it).

Well, I think I will order a new water pump just in case and a new thermostat for sure and do it first. I'll check on the drain line also, good hint on that one!

Another thought, the belts were changed at 58,000 miles and I only see them being done at 60,000 mile intervals in the FSM.

Timing belt is 80,000 interval and is not done with the drive belts. I would do a timing belt, water pump and thermostat all at once. If they have not been done, they need to be. Also, do check the above mentioned drain tube. A dealer serviced car would have all this recommended/done already at 89xxx miles. I think maintenance is all that is in order here. Please update us.
