Thought I would share my custom storage/camping unit that I finished a couple months back! It really has come in handy - the perfect place to relax or car camp or if you've got a gal... Here are a few pics (not a full play-by-play build thread but it is pretty straight forward. 2 hinged cabinets behind driver and passenger seat, one big lift up compartment in the back, two cubbies on each side of the big compartment and a small one near the left hand rear door. Also I added a little desk area. Enjoy!

Picked up two foam pads from home depot as my mattress. Stuck them together with spray adhesive (barely) and put a sheet over it and duct taped it all on the underside so it fit well. Pretty cheap mattress (about 25$ a piece) and very comfy.

Carpeted, and hinges on. Cabinets to the side are missing their lids.

blurry pic, but this is the view looking back from the front.

All put together, with mattress on and subwoofer in (usually is not for spacial reasons of course). My old carpet tailgate was ripping off so we decided to replace it.

Here is the new "tailgate". An old freeway offramp sign.

Here is the underside of the tailgate, before we stripped and polished it all up. Nice aluminum sheet after!

Staining! Dark walnut gives it a nice fancy feel.

Here is what she looks like all finished! (Tailgate is a little dirty but you get the point. I wanted a nice cleanable surface for cooking on/near.)

Nice work!
Just curious how much do you think that unit you built weighs?

Thanks so much for the nice feedback, guys!!!

89fjlandcruiser - The unit itself probably weighs around 100 lbs (2 4X8 Pine Plywood was used for the unit), not too difficult to take in and out with two people.

Awesome design/ build! I might have to copy a few things off of this in the future...
