I think it's closer to 2x the cost. Doug's is better quality and puts out more heat but I think it uses a lot more propane. I run mine pretty low, more for atmosphere than heat. I also liked the smaller size.

I've found the little red campfire for $111, the cheapest I can find the CampFire in a Can is $299. I am interested in using it more for ambiance and even roasting some hot dogs/marshmallows over than trying to use it as a heat source. I really like the idea of being able to use it under my awning during a rainstorm.

I have owned or used 3 different propane campfire units over the last 10 years (a fourth one and the first one I used was a home made unit) and the best one by far has been the camp fire in a can, CFIAC for short. I haven't seen Ace's Little Red work yet but the FJC/Tacoma Mag guys had one at the Expo but it had a pathetic flame output maybe it wasn't working properly. When it's cold enough it does come in handy for a heat source, the wife will attest to that. Another thing about the CFIAC is the customer service that they give. After my spring break trip I had a clip that holds the lid on pop off that I could not find (after all the snow had melted on my gear I found it). I called them up and got the owner of the company and he sent me a complete set of clips (3) and a cleaning kit to boot all at no cost to me even though I told him it was over a year old and it had been used hard and heavy! The guy really cares about his product and the people using it, just something to think about.

Great Info! Thanks Doug

I'm in the middle of a really great book "The Dog Stars". It's a great adventure story, dog story, survival, guns, hunting, fishing, airplanes, travel, and love story. It really has everything yet is simply and beautifully written. To top it all off it is located in Western Colorado, well most of it. Highly recommended.

Now that its finished I have had time to think about it and compare to the literally thousands of books I have read. I believe it is one of the top ten easily. Possibly best ever.

We have all had trouble with varmints getting into our camp gear. Well this morning about 4 AM I heard the telltale sound of chewing. Yelled and slapped the tent and it would stop for a few minutes then start again. I finally got up and closed the tailgate on the trailer as there was cooking gear and food there. Back to bed and it starts again only with a different sound to it now, much faster, even frantic paced. Then I hear a bottle get knocked over. Aha, now I know where he is! Get up again and unload everything from the trailer (a lot!). Had to chase him out with a broom. Finally got some peaceful sleep. This morning cleaning up I found that he had chewed up corners of a beer carton but had not touched a bag of pistachios. Must be an alcoholic chipmunk!

Wish Jonathan a Happy Birthday today. He has hit the ripe old age of 30.

I never worry about these so-called milestone birthdays. Figure making it that far beats the heck out of the alternative.
Happy Birthday!

Saw this on the back of an FJC. Mothers of young children should divert their eyes.

Just saw an off-road trailer for sale on Craig's List. Looks like a GI Jeep trailer with full metal box cover, spare, swivel hitch and jeep bolt pattern. Looked pretty good to me except bolt pattern (easily changed).

Two new off-road magazines hitting the newsstands soon: TCT Toyota Cruisers and Trucks and Outdoorx4. The first is a spin-off from two web magazines; one that was devoted to the FJ Cruiser and the other was on the Tacoma. But with the recent announcement that 2014 was the final year for the FJC publisher Shane Williams decided to cover all Toyota trucks with TCT which will be available as a webzine or print edition. Our own Jonathan Harris will be editor for Land Cruisers.

OUTDOORx4 is a new magazine which should look a lot like Overland Journal but with more emphasis on alternative means of travel like hiking and mountain biking. The brief preview I saw of it suggests that there will be plenty of 4x4 coverage too. Jonathan Hanson will be doing a column for the new mag. Many of you know him as the former editor of Overland Journal and as half of the team that organizes the Overland Expo.

Just found another Toyota only 4x4 mag on the stands called "4x4 Garage DIY Toyota Tech" but it only comes out annually. This was the third edition. Mostly it is just a reprint of Toyota builds published in "4Wheel and Off-Road" recently. Some new info too.

I have a problem with the Autoguide App that access the Fjcruiser forum. It locked up yesterday. After multiple attempts finally deleted and reloaded the app. The latest version is the crashiest pos I have ever seen. Deleted again and reloaded with same results. Looked at app reviews and everyone is having the same problem. It had the lowest rating of any app I've ever looked at.

Any other FJ Cruiser owners on here trying to use this app?

Not working at all for me on my Android phone or tablet. There is an error message but it disappears before I can read it. Hope they fix it soon.

According to all the bad reviews it's been crapped up for a long time. But it was working ok for me until about three days ago. After I reloaded the app it's pure junk. I see the same message about updating something.
