Howdy! The Off Highway Vehicle Ambassador Program was started up a few years ago. It is managed by the BLM, and it is (mostly?) funded by the OHV stickers. It has been very successful, and the Table Mesa Cleanup is one example of their work. The Boulders OHV riding area west of Lake Pleasant is another. The group supports any/all land management agencies. While there have been good volunteers groups around for a long time, such as local clubs and the TRALS group with the Tonto ranger district, this is the first time it has been attempted on this large of a scale. I joined a couple of years ago, and I try to get out at least once per month, but it's not always possible. I have done Meet n Greets, trail monitoring, cleanups, and abandon mine relocation work so far. Learn more at <www.OHVAmbassador.com>. I figure it is much easier to meet and infuence these land managers by volunteering. So far I have taken a BLM Director of Recreational Development out on 9 ride alongs, and we have had some in depth discussions of land use issues. We can make a difference. I have also been working with the Az State Game and Fish OHV representative to find small projects that our club may be able to accomodate. I have no details yet, but two areas of possible interest are around Flagstaff and Globe. I will update as I learn more. John
