Camaro 1997

Hey Everyone

My ex girlfriend aka good friend. Has just run into some problems with her car. The cars details are a 1997 chevy camaro rs with the v6 so i'm not sure what transmission it is.

I guess she was going down the freeway and shifted form Overdrive to Drive. And now the car will not go into reverse..... I Have no clue wtf is going on and When she puts it in neutral it is in drive. Almost as if she had moved the little transmission selection orage thing up or down and is now off.
I really hope that its nothing major.

The transmission fluid was good from what I had checked.

The only reason im asking you is becasue you had known sooo much about transmissions..

Thanks soooo much everyone I would really appreciate it soooo much for any input on this problem.

I don't know about them new fangled transmissions but the shifter cable for my th350 in my cruiser is messed up, I have two neutrals sometimes but I can always get it where I want it. Can you shift it manually into reverse using the bracket on the side of the transmission?

I don't know about Camaro's but on the 80 the transmission selecctor is connected to a rod. Maybe the shifter and the transmission selector jumped a bit? Sounds like it might be as easy as readjusting the linkage.

I had this problem with the wife's dodge minivan. There's a bolt that holds the linkage in place that loosened allowing the rod to move a little throwing the whole selector off.
