Just wanted to make sure you guys have seen this thread. I fell victim to a fallen out top bolt on the front PS caliper a few nights ago in a bad part of town at 11:45pm. I decided to limp home using side streets and engine braking coupled with the e-brake. Luckily my bolt that had fallen out was wedged in the caliper so it was an easy repair with zero damage. Could have been a lot worse. Very thankful I was not doing 80 down the freeway with the family inside and needing to make a quick stop!

Ray and I did my front end rebuild and we tightened these SOB's VERY tight with a breaker bar. I think some Lock-tite or the like is in my future! IIRC FSM specs are 90 ft/lb

Woa, it happened to you know too? I saw this thread last week and find it so hard to believe that they need to be torqued so damn tight. Kinda sucks we have to watch them. Yeah, i would totally put a dab of red locktite on them ASAP. Glad to hear your ok Scott.

Yikes - at least you do know the fsm specs. I've checked mine and they are on gorrilla tight. Not looking forward to trying to get them off when it's time for the front birf job.

That's got to be coming up quickly. I've got all the parts, just need the expert to teach me!

I always torque my stuff to spec, but it doesn't sound like that is a guarantee either. I might use blue loctite next time.

Glad your damage was minimal. Gotta go check mine now.

I missed that thread but caught a similar thread awhile back with the same result. After all the banter back and forth the general consensus as I saw it was to torque to specs and locktite it. I removed mine the next day and thankfully they were all tight. I used the red locktite and re-torqued them, no problems yet. Glad it all woriked out as well as it did Smit, that could have been ugly.

I use blue loctite on just about everything on the underside of my rig. I think red may be a little too strong for hardware that was originally designed to work perfectly well without either. But I think we all agree on where none will get you:mad:

I know the red loctite is supposed to be permanent but FWIW I have taken off things that were supposed to be permanent on lift kit instals but had to be removed later for whatever reason and not had a hard time getting them apart. A little work with a wire brush or pick before re-assembly and you are back in buisness. I have not had any damage to parts either.

Actually, red isn't permanent. Green is the one you really need to worry about.

I didn't even know there was green. Learn something new everyday. :)
