Trail Crew:

I have spoken with Rose Foster, Volunteer Coordinator and Lynnette Elser, Recreation Chief from the Barstow BLM Filed Office in regards to Trail Crew adopting Doran and Odessa Canyons.

Their office is very supportive and welcoming our efforts. They expressed their concerns about the increased OHV use and the continuing problems with trash, appliances, stolen vehicles, and even a body that was discarded in the desert. This is a great way to give back to the sport and enjoy some decent wheelin'.

Although I couldn't give them a date as to when we would like to coordinate a clean up, I requested that BLM supply us with trash bags, the possiblity of a bin, or a designated area to dump the collected trash. The County of San Bernardino Board of Supervisors office has agreed to furnish us with dumpcards, if necessary.

This is definetly an area that we want to keep the gates open. Anyone interested in participating a clean up/scouting current conditions in May, before the cooler temperature changes a hundred plus degrees? And then returning for an organized clean up in October? Any thoughts or ideas?

Mark

Sounds like you've taken the bull by the horns Mark. Always glad to hear good news from the government!

Wasn't John Nelson originally looking into this? Are you coordinating this with him? Have you spoken with anyone else about this project? I think that getting a formal commitment from our club on this should be a slam-dunk. It's one of the places we seem to ALL like to go.

Look forward to hearing more at the meeting.

I volunteered to make contact with BLM in regards to Calico and the USFS in regards to the designated routes for the forest areas affected at last months meeting after Phil expressed his concerns to the group.

I discussed these particular issues with several of the club members including John, Art, Dave, and Ross. The BOD from TLCA was also contacted on another opportunity from BLM and Discovery Trails. All with positive support and fresh ideas. I posted some info on our Yahoo group for input and discussion.

Stay tuned for Tuesday's meeting. It will be informative.

Sounds like we've got us an official 'land use' chairman!
