Well, my truck passed again. Posting the results to help others baseline. It's a federal spec '78 with the original 2F, carburetor, stock exhaust, and all the original emissions gear. No cat or other whacky CA smog equipment.

Nicely done. I've had issues in the past getting my 2F to pass smog in Phoenix when I lived there. Finally gave up and registered it in Montana, which solved the problem :)

Also worth mentioning that I’m using a fuel additive for the test. My truck is tuned pretty well, but the squeaky clean fuel probably helps too.

Living in Arizona, it amazes me California is so strict on emission's , but , the state is on fire probably putting enough stuff in the air to negate years of control.

One of the reasons I bought a pre smog. California is a headache. My fj60 after I replace and repaired smog stuff did well on the smog test. Just gotta sweat every 2 yrs.

Just rush reassembled my 78 to get it back on the road for smog. Always a concern but mine now keeps passing (even without a tuneup :). Big milestone for me was getting a leaner jet (details in the Bumps thread) and kicking the idle up a bit on the already rebuilt carb. Runs great (knock wood) and even smells better (a little anyway).
