Am I the only one that thinks 'buy a welder and get to learning...'?? That's how I learned, I'm no expert, but if the rest of the truck is what you want, metal is metal, if you can cut the crap out and weld some new in, what's the harm?

I have two welders and don't know how to use either one. I could probably glob an exhaust leak closed but I don't have the skillset. I also don't have the indoor space to do any major work.

Do I really need to get rid of the roof rack?

Thanks

That's a stock Canadian market roof rack (Note the old school Toyota "T" on the uprights). It's not doing you any harm. I've got 2 rusted out trucks with that rack, roofs are fine.

Agreed. I've seed a lot of Canadian trucks, and the roofs were not the problem. Regarding rust, I've seen it stated once here before: cold weather/salty roads - look low. Warm weather/moist air - look high.

Roof rack seems solid.
Down low is where the focus is now.
It hasn’t age that bad for seeing 31 years of elements.

I don’t live too far from a Toyota dealership and a lot of the new trucks have complete frame recalls. Five-year-old trucks with completely rotted frames

I have to go to Canada to pickup my bj73

Should I grab any parts from the local parts supplier up there? Thinking about diesel parts that may be difficult to get in the US.

I am hoping that advanced auto parts or similar up there will stock diesel specific parts.

Thanks,
