I’ve owned a couple of LC’s, a 1974 FJ40 and currently a 1989 FJ62. I’m looking at a couple of 2021 Heritage Editions and had a couple of questions. Were the Heritage Edition wheels standard or were they an upgrade? Also was the roof basket standard or was it an option?
One of the trucks I’m looking at has the standard Toyota wheel for a non Heritage Edition and no basket. The CaFax report calls it a Heritage Edition. Thanks for looking at this.

Bronze wheels and roof rack were standard. Roof rack also has a key that you need to remove it. If you want a different offset then the wheels don't really matter. For some reason when I was looking Carfax would show HE sometimes even when not. That looks like an HE though.

and some of the reasons you can tell are

no chrome door molding
different grill
black rear views on silver
doesn't have a cool box
and depending on which year, one year (think 2020) did not offer 3rd seating

What was said above.

If that is a Heritage they removed a lot of parts. Looks like the rear badging is gone too. Check for a cool box. Heritage does not have one. Heritage can also have 3rd row delete.

If I had to guess, I'd say the prior owner or dealership lackey swapped the wheels/tires and sold them. Same with chintzy YAKima roof rack. But that's my best guess. If there's "bronze" stitching on your black interior seats, then it's highly likely a legit HE. But yes, the options @stevopike mentioned hold true.

EDIT: yes! @Umbrarian hit the nail on the head. NO coolbox = HE. I don't even recall seeing this as an option for swapping out and installing on the HE.

Pretty stupid IMO if they had an HE, then pretty much made it a regular LC base model. You could have easily just bought a base and gone from there instead of getting an HE and neutering it.

If someone changed out the HE wheels and sold them, they made a lot of money. Those are pricey.

Thanks for all of the responses. There is HE badging on the C pillar. I was able to look at the original window sticker and it is an HE. I would be the third owner so someone along the way swapped the wheels. I don’t care much about the Yakima basket. They have HE pricing on it so I guess I will have to negotiate.

I know we are Insta buddies. Welcome to 200.

Do it. Don't look back.

You will need Head Gaskets....

in the future...

Cool box delete and bronze stitching are the safest way to determine if it is an HE or a counterfeit one. Back in 2020 and 2021 right after launch, people would go to bat to try and turn their Base LCs in HEs, but the cool box delete and stitching are just not reproduceable.

Door moldings is my preferred method to determine, from the outside, if it’s likely a heritage or not. Requires real work to remove those and fill the holes in the doors. Most people weren’t that committed.

Car looks nice though, if it’s in good shape I would pull the trigger!

If they’re wanting HE pricing, tell them you want 5 HE wheels and new rubber too.

Sounds like the rig had some vulture prior owners. Basket is immaterial imo.
