I found a one owner '02 LX with 111k miles, and an impeccable service history. No rust, recent timing belt done, and almost mint condition for an '02. I've been holding out for a while to buy a 100 series. So, should I buy this one for $15500, or hold out for newer? The stories about the 4 speed tranny scare me, but maybe the '02 year was ok? Any advice is appreciated.

well, I really enjoy the 5 speed but in the big picture I would think that an excellent condition overall would trump the extra gear...

I'd be patient and wait - lots of good 5 speeds out there...

Just my non-commiting opinion, but for $15.5k with patience you could probably find a similar 03,04 .. But then again as winter approaches these rigs start to move (you have plenty of time).

The 02's history described has a lot of bonuses that triumph a fancy dash and 5th gear - good news is that Either way you'll have an awesome rig on your hands.

Basically I've been no help:cheers:

Good luck

That is a tough one only if slightly exceeding that price is going to be an issue. If $15,500 is at the upper threshold of what you want to spend, I do think it will not be that easy to find an 03+ with similar mileage, fully serviced, rust free, etc. Sounds like a turnkey purchase which is killer.
Also, if it does not have nav, that is a major plus.

If good with going up to say 18, getting a 2003 would definitely have its advantages. The 5sp is undeniably better. And should it be your preference, it also means 17/18 inchers.

I waited for a 03+ in your price range, fully serviced, all records, etc... After 8 months, struck gold.

I'll say this: the 5-speed is better, way better. That being said, I wouldn't have passed up an 02 w/ the same pedigree....

I ended up looking for older trucks without factory nav. I just can't deal with the old stereo. I bought a 99 with locker and am happy with it

Coming from an owner of an '02 who's also driven an '05, I'd say go for the '03+ for the 5-speed transmission and upgrades. While I love my '02, I wish it had some of the stuff offered in the '03+. This is all assuming pricing for both is on par (average).
