Thanks Dan,
I might be interested in that hard top later on. Right now, I need to get the rig home and digest all that needs to be done, and where.

Oh that's easy...it's figuring out where they $$$ to pay for said things comes from....I've sunk 6G's into my buggy already....AND THE TUBE HASN'T EVEN BEEN LAYED YET!!!Many more thousands to go....
FWIW I don't miss my hard top at all. I don't think I've seen the Hard top on Shawns rig in all the years I've know him. Hard doord on the other hand are a must have. Soft doors suck in winter. Thanks Dan,

Im now OFFICIALLY the proud papa of an FJ40.
She came home with me last eve. and is now resting comfortably in my 3rd car garage.
It is a 76, but it has NO front discs...apparently (which makes sense now) a new axel was required and it was from an earlier year 40 with the drums...Hence the need for new brake lines.
Ive got a LOT of work to do for sure.
Crazy as it may seem...I REALLY looking forward to it.
Can anyone PM me Shawn's number. I need to pick his brain on something that COULD potentially REALLY help me with the cost of this build and get things moving a BUNCH quicker.

.... and the tub is decent with some rust at the rear corners.

Your killing me.
Who could have guessed there would be issues under the diamond plate.Got to poke around the 40 today a LITTLE bit.
That thing is SOOOOO FAAAAAR from running in its stock form it isnt even funny.
There is crap D/C'd all over, bolts missing, the front flip down grill thing isnt bolted in....Fortunately I dont really care about that stuff as its all gonna get torn down and re done.
I did take off one side of that crappy diamond plate...Better than I was expecting. The lower edge on the bend of the DS is a MASS of bondo and GET THIS...there was a FU*KING PEPSI CAN used IN THE GLOB OF BONDO for spme backing....WTF do people think....SERIOUSLY!
Im off to Chicago tomorrow, so Ill talk to you all when I get home in a week.
Be safe and have fun!

I think he plans to swap the stuff off his 62 into the new truck.Kewl, another 40 to play with. We're going to have to hook up. I can give you the info on getting steel braided lines off the shelf from Summit for all your plumming. I'm curious about the drum breaks on a '76 though. I thought the conversion to disc was a federal madate in '75.
Any way, you'll have to find a set of knuckles, discs, birfields, and hubs off of a straight axle mini truck.
Rusy's right about the hard top. Don't bother. It's about 250 lbs that sits REALY high on the rig. It's also REALY hard to find frieds to help dead lift the thing up onto a SOA rig.![]()

I've walked the top off of my 40 solo, it's an awkward weight. What are you talking: Keith could press that by himself; no problem![]()

Shawn is right, it's like a gunfight scene from an old western when you start unbolting the top on an FJ40, complete with tumble weeds. None of your neighbors are anywhere to be found, at least after the first time.![]()
