Thanks Dan,
I might be interested in that hard top later on. Right now, I need to get the rig home and digest all that needs to be done, and where.

That's true...
But I have MOST of the stuff I need already, so it shouldnt be TOO TERRIBLE actually.
Dont get me wrong...there is still lots of money to plunk down, but Im not starting from scratch either (THANK GOD!).

FWIW I don't miss my hard top at all. I don't think I've seen the Hard top on Shawns rig in all the years I've know him. Hard doord on the other hand are a must have. Soft doors suck in winter.

Im now OFFICIALLY the proud papa of an FJ40.
She came home with me last eve. and is now resting comfortably in my 3rd car garage.
It is a 76, but it has NO front discs...apparently (which makes sense now) a new axel was required and it was from an earlier year 40 with the drums...Hence the need for new brake lines.
Ive got a LOT of work to do for sure.
Crazy as it may seem...I REALLY looking forward to it.

Can anyone PM me Shawn's number. I need to pick his brain on something that COULD potentially REALLY help me with the cost of this build and get things moving a BUNCH quicker.

Got to poke around the 40 today a LITTLE bit.
That thing is SOOOOO FAAAAAR from running in its stock form it isnt even funny.
There is crap D/C'd all over, bolts missing, the front flip down grill thing isnt bolted in....Fortunately I dont really care about that stuff as its all gonna get torn down and re done.
I did take off one side of that crappy diamond plate...Better than I was expecting. The lower edge on the bend of the DS is a MASS of bondo and GET THIS...there was a FU*KING PEPSI CAN used IN THE GLOB OF BONDO for spme backing....WTF do people think....SERIOUSLY!

Im off to Chicago tomorrow, so Ill talk to you all when I get home in a week.

Be safe and have fun!

Who could have guessed there would be issues under the diamond plate.

Have fun in Chicago, I heard they have some pretty good Pizza there.

bezel police! :flipoff2:

nice score keith. that rig is pretty much exactly what you need for a platform to build your project.

i'll reply to your pm.

Yeah, I knew it going in.
That is the only reason someone would put that crap on there.
But a CAN!?!?!?!?!?
Im so glad I can handle the repair myself though, and Ill most likely and up chopping a lot of it off anyway. Well see when I can grind the paint off to reveal the full extent of the damage.
Pizza...YEAH!
Lou Malnatti's here I come (www.tasteofchicago.com)

They even ship here!

 Kewl, another 40 to play with. We're going to have to hook up. I can give you the info on getting steel braided lines off the shelf from Summit for all your plumming. I'm curious about the drum breaks on a '76 though. I thought the conversion to disc was a federal madate in '75.:hmm: Any way, you'll have to find a set of knuckles, discs, birfields, and hubs off of a straight axle mini truck.

Rusy's right about the hard top. Don't bother. It's about 250 lbs that sits REALY high on the rig. It's also REALY hard to find frieds to help dead lift the thing up onto a SOA rig.:hillbilly:

I think he plans to swap the stuff off his 62 into the new truck.

What are you talking: Keith could press that by himself; no problem :bounce::bounce:

I've walked the top off of my 40 solo, it's an awkward weight.

Shawn is right, it's like a gunfight scene from an old western when you start unbolting the top on an FJ40, complete with tumble weeds. None of your neighbors are anywhere to be found, at least after the first time.

Yeah, you want to find out who your real friends are, ask them to help you remove a International Scout Hardtop. Now that thing a one heavy/awkward POS. And I had two different friends with them and we removed and installed those things numerous times.;p

 I didn't realize you planning on scavinging parts of the 62. You should be wheeling in a couple of weeks.:bounce:

Hey all!
Just got back for Chi town...
Ill be scrapping the hard top idea and stick with the softies for the 40.

Shawn,
Ill be calling you soon (Rusty, you too). Im planning on buying an uncut harness from Reno Auto Wreckers and make a good SOLID attempt at doing the wiring myself, but I WILL NEED some skilled people to help me do it as I know virtually NOTHING about electronics.
I figure that it will be a good thing to learn if NOTHING else and at BEST, Ill save myself about 500 bucks.
Ill be pulling the stock running gear soon...in the next couple of weeks and do a good clean up of the frame and tub etc...the within the next month get the Vortec etc. mounted. Im hoping that this goes rather quickly and be ready to wheel before spring.
The biggest hindrance right now is of course the DOUGH to get it done...However, if I can get the harness done myself, that will free up a lot o cash to do other stuff. However, its a pretty spendy nut to have a harness built. 750 bucks with emissions stuff, and 250 for the computer re flash...

First things first though...Ive gotta make or get wheel dollies, and I HAVE to get Mark's doors done BEFORE I can start on my junk.
Someone mentioned that they wanted a bumper too in the mix...

Espresso...Ive got a BUM SHOULDER! Im not benchin ANYTHING right now. Im keeping up with the 40 oz curls though!:p
