After an Incredible wheeling trip at CMCC 06, my only damage is this. Is this just the seal or more than that? Do I have to pull out the whole tcase to replace this?

Thanks

You won't like the answer. Unlike all preceeding Land Cruisers, this case does not have a separate output flange. So to get at the seal, you need to split the case, and get the output shaft and attached flange out from behind. Not a good design in my opinion. Contrast to an FJ60 split case where replacing the seal is a trivial job.

Hey Riad--

If it's any consolation, my front output seal is shot after our wonderful wheeling adventure this weekend....I hope to get at it in the next couple of weeks.....

Great video by the way!!

Are you saying if I were to just remove the rear extension housing, that wouldn't work  ..hmmm...

I think he is saying that you need to bring the xfer case down (i.e., remove from transmission). I think...

Don't worry. I have to do the same thing to take care of the front output seal that is drooling fluid all over my garage floor. :crybaby:

Check out these threads Riad:

(Alia176 gives a pretty good description of how to do this about mid-thread above)

(Dan gives reference to both part numbers for front and rear about mid-way down on this link above)

(Good info. from Robbie in this thread).

It seems that while you are in there, it is a good time to relace our output bearing as well....

I think both of us will be under our rigs this coming weekend...

Thanks a lot man!! Looks like Alia76 did it exactly the way I was contemplating, by removing the rear extension housing. Cool!

Thanks again

I followed the step by step from a mud write up. It only took 3 hours and the case did not have to come out of the truck. It was not a hard job.To find the write up I did a search for T-Case out put seal I think?

It's done. Here's how the old seal looks like. I found nothing but mud in the rubber lip there. I am staying away from deep mud wholes from now on. Again, thanks to Lance at IPOR for doing the fast service for me :D.
