I broke the rear springs on my 40 about a week ago. I can't believe the price of replacements!!!!!! I found a complete set from a 76 and am considering getting them, does anyone know if they will fit?If not the salvage yards around here rarely see any FJ's so any other donors known?

Hi All:

Hey "6740inCO," I believe your your rig is a 1967 FJ40? :D: ;p

That clarified, I believe that those '76 vintage 40 Series leaf springs will be bolt-in replacements. I'd plan on new spring bushings and u-bolts as well.

To remove the old suspension parts soak 'em in a good penetrating oil (such as Aero Kroil or PB Blaster) and consider using heat as well (propane or welding torch.) To remove the old u-bolts just use a saw-all or cut-off wheel.

Good luck!

Alan

Thanks for the Help! As I just did the SOA removal shouldn't be a problem and the 76 Springs are already out also. As for "new" I do not need any more lift as I have 10" already and the cost of the new springs will take from the disc brake fund.

Will take the pic's of the driveline angles tomorrow and try to get them posted asap! I checked out Hell Creek and they look to be a bit cheaper but for right now the lift I have is good enough to operate and have fun with the drums on it. May opt for more lift after the disc upgrade. I may not have the whole process mapped out right but i do an upgrade and go play! I am tired of all work and no play
