So I just bought a 2021 4Runner Off Road Premium and I'm already making all sorts of lists of parts, projects, and modifications that I'd like to start with. I will be putting in a Solid Wood Worx Expedition drawer system which has two drawers and a built in slide out for a refrigerator. It's a semi custom piece, and I need to tell them whether to put the fridge slide on the drivers or passenger side prior to manufacture. This, of course, got me thinking about the best way to have my kitchen set up and how this might interact with an aftermarket bumper.

I'd love to hear recommendations from any who have already gone through this kind of build, what they think about the particular rear bumper they went with, and anything they would have done differently in retrospect. Along with figuring out what company and model bumper to go with, I need to decide if I will go with a dual or a single swing out. Is one more convenient or effective than the other? Does the weight of a spare tire/wheel, a couple of jerry cans, and a HiLift jack wear on the hinge if I go with a single swing out? My current thinking is that I should have the fridge slide out on one side of the back of the vehicle, and have a half or full swing out (with a drop down table for my stove) on the other side. Are there better configurations for cooking/camping ease?

While I don't mind spending good money for quality, I'd rather not pay a premium just for a name. Who makes the best quality to cost ratio bumpers out there? Approach/departure angle clearance is one of my primary concerns, followed closely by the protection provided to the vehicle. I will also be shopping for a front bumper with a winch, so recommendations in that direction will also be helpful.

Thanks,

Andrew

I did not realize that this came up on the GX460 forum; sorry for the inconvenience. It must have cross posted because I am able to view my post on the 5th gen 4Runner forum. Regardless, with the platform being essentially the same, my questions would have equal relevance on either forum.

I know some of the under carriage armor is the same, e.g.: skid plates and maybe sliders. I have a 4R bash plate on my GX.
But anything relating to the body like bumpers, roof racks, interior M.O.L.L.E. panels for the rear quarter windows, etc. will not transfer between the two.
Also, anything related to the engine like mufflers, pedal commander, etc. And of course interior items.
You're welcome to look, but it may be kind of limiting.
Enjoy your new 4R! Great rigs!
