I've got a 2004 100 series that is stock except for bigger tires. While I fantasize about doing more, my main offroad uses are towing dirtbikes and fireroads.

I got rear-ended and insurance is going to buy me a new bumper. I thought I'd explore aftermarket options (of course, the front will be out of my pocket). Since 99% of my use is commuting/on-road, I don't want to add a bunch of weight (otherwise I'd get ARBs). Any suggestions/links on light-ish aftermarket bumpers that look good? If you have a sense of how much they way in comparison to stock bumpers, that would be helpful. I'd want to be able to keep the factory tow hitch if possible (I know it messes with clearance, but I need it).

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions.

Sorry for yet another thread on bumpers. I got too many bumper related hits on search.

You're not going to have a lot of options. And it sounds like you don't really need aftermarket bumpers. Most people get front bumpers to mount a winch, protect the radiator and improve the approach angle. It doesn't sound like you need any of those features.

Most people get rear bumpers to get the spare out from underneath, have somewhere to mount a hi-lift jack, protect the rear from ledges, and improve the departure angle which is hurt by the OEM trailer hitch.

Almost all the options out there are heavy (100-150lb front, 150-250lb rear). The stock front bumper probably weights 40lbs. The rear bumper is the rear crossmember so it's just the weight of the plastic cover you'd be removing and the 10lb wing support. Almost all the options somewhat necessitate beefing up the suspension to handle the added weight.

TJM bumpers are probably your lightest option. But it doesn't sound like you need them. Maybe get the insurance company to cut you a check, pick up a used bumper from another forum member (I just threw both my oem bumpers away last week). And pocket the money for a future lift or other mod.

TJM does make an aluminum front bumper, but I don't think they make any rear aluminum ones.

I don't tow, so was able to ignore the debates about official towing capacity on the various aftermarket bumpers. If that's a key requirement for you, then read some of the posts on that subject...might sway you one way or the other.

If you decide to go the OEM replacement route, as @KlausVanWinkle suggests, I happen to have a gray OEM rear bumper that I'm told is taking up too much space in my garage (in San Diego). PM if you're interested.

Thanks for the replies, it seems that it really doesn't make sense for me to get an aftermarket bumper. I would have liked like to save a couple of bucks and go with a used one (thank you for the suggestions and offers), time and hassle made me just drop it off at the body shop and have them take care of it.

Thank you again for the advice.
