I guess this doesn't apply to any one vehicle so I put it in here.

My family has 4 Cruisers and a 4Runner, and I do all the maintenence on all of them, so we go through a lot of oil/ATF/80w-90/antifreeze.

I have been buying 80w-90 by the 5 gallon bucket for a few years, and would like to start buying Synthetic 5w-30 and 10w-30 by the 5 gallon bucket as well. I would also like to buy Synthetic or non-synth ATF by the 5-gallon bucket.

Does anyone here do this? Or know how it is possible without having to get set up with a commercial distributorship?

We would probably even be interested in sizes up to 35 gallon drums as well.

have you checked NAPA? they have everything in 5 and 30 gal drums but you have to ask about it as they dont put it on the floor in every store. i also have a couple local fuel and oil companies that sell bulk per gallon in volume. i can purchase a container from them or bring in my own.

Just go to a distributor and buy it in the bulk you would like. 5 gallon or 55 gallon is common.

Bailey - a few years afo with amSPOIL if you bought a certain small $ amount they would set you up as a dealer and you could get dealer prices. Don't know if they still do that but it could be worth checking out. Just fyi though, with the shipping the drum prices didn't allow for any savings when I looked into it.

When I had to get oil for my lathe I went to the Shell website to find a local dealer. I'm thinking something like that may have trucks they'd sent out to small shops etc.

Thanks for the leads.

I've bought 5 gallon buckets from Napa, but it was always kind of expensive. $50 for 5 gal of gear oil when I've bought it elsewhere for $21.

I'll look up distributors and see what I can see.

With that many vehicles I would look into a 30 or drum and a drum pump, I know you can get 30 gallon drum of Mobil 1 gear oil, not sure about their engine oils,

at 5k oil changes with 8 quarts per oil change each vehicle, a 5 gallon drum will be depleted at 25K miles each vehicle, that would only be a year if each was a daily Atlanta driver, but I assume not all 5 are daily drivers?

there is a Mobil distributor of Langford Parkway were I found Mobil D1

If you want non synth I woudl look at Chevron, they do a goof bit of bulk and the quality and price are good,

Sams club has it in drums? Haven't seen that. I will check again.

Thanks Raven. Only the FJ40 is not a DD, but it does not deserve synthetics and has different oil requirements than the rest.
I will check out the Mobil distributor. I would like to get Mobil 1 in bulk for all the DD's.

register as a business. set up a commercial account with a bulk dealer and find out how much you have to spend to qualify for certain discounts. Very easy.

Tip, Napa will not ask for your business account proof..... I think.

Bailley,
I would check with your local chapter. I think that Mike Hinderleider is the POC you will want to try for. As I recall, Mike's work was associated with distribution of lubricants in bulk. Since I am no longer a member and have not been to a meeting in years; I may have the wrong name in mind, but you may be able to readily confirm what you need if you go to December meeting on Tuesday. Good luck.

Look in the phone book for fuel services. Most fuel services also sell oil by the bucket, drum or tub containers. Of course it is always cheaper by volume.

I do Rotella 15-40 (diesel) by the drums. Just p/up 4 drums on Thursday afternoon & I've already emptied three and I'm into the fourth, (165+ gallons within a 24hr period). Lets not talk fuel or oil filters unless it's by cases.
