Wanted to take a break from working on the 40 and give the 80 some love so I figured I'd attempt to make a set of screens for the 3rd row windows. I sleep in the back from time to time and with the summer coming and the darn mosquitoes make it impossible to leave the windows open while sleeping without some type of screen.

I made a template out of cardboard then transferred that to 1/4" 3ply sheets. Free handed the inside with the jigsaw. Painted them black and bent some 'T' brackets to attach the screen with a suction cup.

Here are some pics of the finished product...not too shabby if I do say so myself :grinpimp:.

What did you use for the frame.

Those look cool.
You should make more, get the ONSC logo etched into it and sell them on MUD... instant hit and recognition for our club. :D

I started out trying to use 12 gauge hanger wire but that was a waste of time...so I ended up using 1/4" 3ply plywood sheets. Got them at HD for like 4 bucs a sheet (I think the sheets were 3x4'). I wanted something that would stay light and bend a little to form to the window frame curve.

Jon, me likes.... nice ingenuity!

nice idea, and deployment.

Those look great! Back when I used to sleep in the back of the 4Runner, I had a big piece of screen that I would stretch over the sunroof and held it down by closing it in the front doors. Worked fine, except in the rain of course.

Again, great job. You need to start producing some for the club.

And I'll take two. :hillbilly:

I'm seriously considering it...but I need to find some better weather stripping as the cheap stuff I used on my first ones aren't really holding shape that well. Once I find a better solution then I'll probably make another set or two.

I think these are cool, and see a alot of people wanting to buy some.

Now if only i had an 80.....

Interesting "deluxe" version occurred to me, with a small roof going out to catch any rain? Very nice concept!!

So....how'd they work?

They worked great but I'm already making some improvements today after using them Saturday night.

I should have some updated info and pics later tonight...once I get them to where I think they should be then I'll think about building a couple of sets for sale.

Nice work, very clean looking.

One question. Would there be a way to install these inside? That way you could drive around and not worry about them.

I would think it would be kinda hard to open and close the window if it were installed inside, but I'm sure someone could find a way to do it.
