Looking for some advice because I'm totally torn. I bought a 2005 LC for wife's DD last Spring. I haven't done anything to it other than a little maintenance and removed the running boards. On a whim in the fall I sold my old beat up Jeep YJ because I have dreams of doing a little more work to the 100. My Jeep was built for 4 wheeling but wasn't setup for traveling with the family. No AC, old seats, loud, small. My plans for the 100 just include sliders and a more aggressive set of AT tires, possibly small lift. Really hoping to get back into some light wheeling around KY and travel to the HIH this summer.

I instantly regretted selling the Jeep. Today the guy I sold it to called and offered to sell it back. My decision now is between buying the Jeep back for $4000, spending another $2000 or so on tires and a few other things or investing in the 100. My fear is i put tires on the 100, my wife complains they are too loud, and we never get off road with it anyway. Or I get the Jeep back that I owned for almost 20 years, but don't have a family friendly ride.

I assume the 100 Forum will tell me to build the 100, but is this the best plan? I think I just really want both?!

Sorry for the rant, just felt that typing this out make help me make some sense of this. Didn't help yet...

I owned a 93 YJ and absolutely loved that vehicle. Of the 15 or so may be my favorite. I think if you are in a position to get it back and not have to beat on the 100. That's what I would do. Even though I'd like to do some mild mods on my 100 just to make it standout from the rest. I think it just depends what your ultimate goal is.

Buy back your jeep, then as funds become available you can build your 100. If you want both, get both, or you can resell the jeep at a later date if you decide not to keep both.

Especially if there is a family involved, think safety. Between a '96(?) YJ and a '05 LC, You won't need more than a millisecond of thought to figure out which is the safest thing to do.

As much as I love old trucks and the capabilities of a sold axle , I always come back to the 100s for so many reasons. Mainly taking my family and getting there out doors with a wife , 2 kids & dog, towing popup camper. I live in the city so in order for me to get anywhere worth while its nothing less than a 2 hour drive on the interstate. Being able to do this in comfort and safety reduces the challenges of going, which means I go more frequently and have less family kick back.... I have had several toy trucks but decided to let them go as it was more affordable to build and maintain one cool truck then keep on old toy working and a DD. After I load up the Frig, camping crap , kitchen sink my wife wants to take and all the other crap she wants to bring... I am glad I am in a 100s...

My vote would be hold on to your money , get BFG AT KO2 , then after a few weeks get step sliders so she can get in and out easier and it will help keep dirt off the side... If she becomes up happy with the 100s as a DD , that is when you take over and start driving it. Then buy her the jeep and see how she likes it....

good luck on your choice.

Buy the Jeep Back! Wish I had a little 2dr to beat on and not worry about... Prolly going to get one next year as my son is about to turn 14 and we will start building one...

Damn it, I'm getting good arguments from both sides. The 100 is definitely safer and as yeti said, its a good drive for me to get anywhere that I may need 4WD, so the Jeep is impractical. I just can't let go of all the time and money invested when I see the opportunity to buy it back. But it will just need more...

I see a few nods in this thread to the K02s. I have read about them in other threads too. Everyone thats using them really like them? I have a newer set set of Bridgestone Duelers on there now. Road noise and ride suffer much? I ran BFG MTs on my jeep forever and they were awesome.

Anyway, thanks for the input. I'll keep you updated.

I'd not own a Heep, but you seem really attached to it. For that reason alone, I'd probably buy it back and invest in the LC over time.

And as mentioned above, the LC is far safer wrt carrying people you care for. And it's not even close...

Depends on your end goal Id say. Id be prone to keep the cruiser as DD/family hauler/light wheeler and go buy a Toyota wheeling rig instead of the jeep. Either an fj40 that I'd likely keep clean, or an 80 or maybe a SAS mini truck and be ok with getting body damage.

Right now in my life I don't see the need for anything that has limited seating and that is more capable than the 100. Basically that's my 93 pickup, which I only keep for "truck" use and have debated selling it since I'm not planning to beat it up, doesn't fit my growing family and therefore won't ever be a "wheeling rig". When that time eventually comes in a few years that I need a real wheeler, I've decided it would be smarter for me to invest in something I can stick any family member in and have them be safe in a rollover -- so basically fully caged something. Maybe I'll just start collecting drivetrain parts instead and have a father/son project later on :)

In case anyone was wondering, I broke down and bought the jeep back. He dropped the price a little more and I couldn't let it go. Been working on some body work, going to give it a paint job and hopefully find some decent used tires. Still should be able to get the 100 ready for some light wheeling this summer.

Good to hear you bought back the YJ. I may be a bit biased though as I have 3 Jeeps. Still miss my rough riding YJ I let go of 10 years ago, and I'm not sure why.

Darn sentimental value.

I have had the experience of selling a rig and regretting it. I'm glad you were able to get it back.

To keep this thread 100 series tech, what are your plans for the Hundy?

I'd get the jeep back and be worry free. 100 is pretty capable in stock form, you could add some tires and sliders if you want to take the family.

yes, on the LC, just plan on some tires and sliders. I'm having a hard time justifying buying new tires since the Bridgestones that are on it are fairly new. Probably buy the jeep tires now and hold out for the LC until the summer. I also have an older roof rack that was on my jeep. Considering taking the basket off and attaching it to the factory rack on the LC. Anyone found a good solution for a universal type u-bolt that fits the factory bars?

Buy back the Jeep.
