Here and now
I want to do a expedition type build on my rig. This is also my DD so I'll need to keep that in mind and like most of us I don't have rdeep pockets or a sponsers to pay for it.

My thoughts right now are to start with tires (265/70r17's or 255/75 r17's) take off the running boards to make way for a slider/step. Add a lift soon after- something like a OME 885/895 but I'm not stuck on OME-suggestions wanted.

After that I'd like to do a bumper/winch/lights project-I've got ARB or shrokworks to choose from unless I've missed someone-not a lot of options here.

There doesn't seem to be much for rear protection availible -except for custom work.:hmm:

As for the roof I'd like to do something that would use the stock rack if possible-I'd really like to make this a DIY project so I could practice some welding skills.

Please make suggestions and point me to other sources:steer:

My inspiration is the ARB 4R they built and the one in my avatar.

THere are many companies out there for suspension upgrades now. ICON, King, SAW, Fox and others ... you can also look at Toyteclifts as they offer a few options too. All the aforementioned options can be significantly more expensive than OME though. You can pretty much count on any suspension upgrades that fit the FJCruiser as fitting your 4R. Just ask about spring rates and valving if you go that route.

I originally used King's that were setup for FJ's and ended up having to put beefier springs on (front) and increased the rebound to keep up.

Bajaracks just made a new rack available for 4R's that look really good. Learning to fab your own mods can save you a lot of dinero, is very rewarding and gives the one-off appeal too.

Good luck and post your progress.
