I am searching for a 'sleek' front end brush guard for my 04 LC. The ones I've seen seem somewhat bulky and over engineered. Any possibility I've overlooked an attractive 'minimal' brush guard out there? Thanks

Doubtful - especially if you've already searched and found a number of the threads or lists on here.

Otherwise, your best bet is to go the custom one-off route.

So you don't want 'over engineered', which pretty much describes what I was after.

Have you considered those little brush guard bullbar things? The look kind of like:

Maybe with just the bar part.

What is it's intended purpose, or is it merely for looks? Some options might include:
1. Approach angle
2. Collision protetion
3. Protection from twigs poking the headlights
etc.

Thanks! I like the Bull Bar one in black. I'm for the most part looking for protection having recently come within inches of a very large Kansas Whitetail.

X2. It takes more than a brush guard to keep a deer from seriously damaging your truck.

X3 In my opinion brush guards are good for nothing other than looks. I wouldn't waste my money personally, but hey, if you like the look then go for it!

A grill guard is for looks, especially if you just want "the look" for little money. It won't protect you.

If you want protection, get a bumper replacement. You said it yourself they are "over engineered", but that's probably what it takes to run into a deer and keep on going. I'm very happy with my ARB.

There's an old saying that a grill/bush guard is a damage multiplier.
If you get hit in the corner of the guard it will of course damage the corner of the vehicle (fender/bumper) and will probably damage your hood, grill, and anything else within distance. If you didn't have anything at all and was hit in the corner of your vehicle, you'd just damage the fender/bumper.

Maybe not the best explanation, but hope you get the idea. If you want real protection, you'll need a real steal bumper with a integrated steal grill guard.

I know, I know, they aren't the lightest or "slickest" looking things around for what you're looking for, but they do work.

Are you talking about bull bars across the frontal area or brush bars which connect to the front corners and travel down the side to join up with the side steps / rock sliders?

Aye mate, us Yankees don't see much of those "brush guards" up here.

Actually, bumpers are sometimes call brush guards, bull bars, etc. and I don't think we have a real name for the bars that go along the front fenders down to the sliders like you have down there. That just kinda starts getting into exo-skeleton. I've done a couple of surf trips to your country, and you guys do use those brush bars often!
Couldn't believe when I pulled into a park for camping and all the wild kangaroos!! What was amazing was that they were quite tame, unless you heard a big one grunt...

Well they can be quite tame but you have to keep an eye on them. They can very quickly disembowel you with one rake of their rear legs. They sit back on their tail and let rip - literally...
