The upper shock bracket on the right front of my 1986 FJ60 broke in half. I discovered it today after looking for the mystery noise for several days. ( I am about half deaf so my rigs always ride quieter!) I had a welder stick it back together today. My rig has stock springs but I recently put OME N88 shocks. I was told by the dealer, who has a great reputation, that it was OK to go with these shocks with stock springs as I plan to go OME lift eventually. The fracture line on the shock brackett indicated that the problem had been going on for some time and it is possible that it was something I inherited from the PO. However, I was wondering if anyone else had broken an upper front shock bracket or had problems with the OME shocks that are designed for a mild lift but are used on stock height springs.

Yap .. in my case the front left .. I usea flat big washer welded on top to strengthen this point.

thanks

I would imagine that you put more stress on that bracket that I ever will. The washer sounds like a great idea. Do you know of any relationship between heavy duty shocks and broken brackets?
