Do you have to run spacers in the front for the 80 series steel rims?

I wanted to test fit without the spacer but didn't spend the time to pop it off prior....pure laziness. It MIGHT fit, but I think it would hit the tie rod without. I knew I should have done it for posterity sake.

35's on a 60 is the right balance for street driveability and offroad performance with and minimal mods and Cruiser axles in my opinion.. good choice

How much lift do you have again? You're going to get some rubbing issues offroad under articulation and steering but it's not too bad. I ran the same tires with blown out 2.5" springs that were pretty much stock height.

Thanks Matt! I had a lot of back and forth initially but overall it made sense and since the bfgs are undersized it was a no-brainer.

Truck initially is Light/medium OME. I put on extended shackles and AAL up front with the 'A' designation springs in the rear with one AAL removed in attempt to level the truck out. Something around 3-3.5" is my guess. I definitely see how the fronts will cause issues at lock/near lock under flex but we shall see how much interference I get while in Colorado with the flaps off.

Back from a whirlwind of driving for the past two weeks. First was the trip to SAS #3. Yet another great year thanks to @POTATO LAUNCHER @CenTXFJ60 and all the others that make it happen. Rainy this year but it was a pleasant change, not enough to dampen the mood I thought. Also thanks to the beers I received at the top of Imogene, I'm looking at you @ceylonfj40nut !

3,000+ miles, lots of gas, lots of water and gatorade...and a few white claws. Truck gave me no issues, all the way to the top of Imogene and back to Ventura...where I then turned around two days later to drive another 500 miles to Yosemite to hike Half Dome again with my sisters. Again, truck ran like a top and couldn't be happier. Except that I really do need H55. Also rather impressed with the 35s using stock....everything and not even adjusting the timing for altitude. I'd like to think the 150 idle jet helped some at altitude. Especially considering my full desmog and lack of HAC.

Also set aside a minute and finally popped the T caps on the 80 wheels....fit super tight and make me happy to be able to use them again.

Besides H55 and misc things, I am rather content with the truck. Does what I need everyday and couldn't be happier with it. Maybe a diesel in the future? Sorta have my eye on a 40 series next. But I don't think I could sell the 60, just need both.

Some pictures I have stored, thanks to those who took them, can't say I know their 'mud handles unfortunately....other than @Rockymtnreaper Thanks to @NookShneer for the plate frame and window art....you got me....real good. Haha!

Nate, Never seen mirrors like that for the 60. I assume they mount to the fender with the curved footprint.

Please tell me you added a bid.

That’s exactly right, Jimmy. Only offered on Japanese 60 series ‘vans’. These are very difficult to find separate from the truck for sale and these are the cheapest I’ve seen yet, although condition isn’t what I want.

@Rockymtnreaper i didn’t, haha, i want to hold out for a cleaner less rusty pair

@mattressking quick coat of paint and your styling.

I can’t read that page. Do they have a “buy it now” option?

I actually sat and considered that, blast and paint for an even finish wrapped up with new mirrors. Then i thought further....i could spin new arms on a lathe then bend to match if it was really corroded.

Then I told myself I have to rebuild knuckles and still do h55, so i decided to avoid the $500 I’d ultimately spend for mirrors... :/

So the trunk struts seemed to have disappeared. Apparently not back ordered but the “last two” in the states right now. Decided to order two more and see if they are cancelled or if they will be fulfilled. Doubt these will be installed anytime soon, just put on some McMaster Carr ones which i rather use daily until the day I decide to refresh the whole truck.

Which shocks did you use from McMaster Carr? Mine are definitely getting a bit droopy.

So as of now, I have two sets of new OEM....want a pair? I used mcmaster carr, they are fine, but I prefer OEM, looks a touch nicer and better paint/powder /ecoat, whatever it is.

In other news, been traveling a lot but in the couple days I'm home at a time, I found myself with a few fun bits and Toyota even surprised me with a 1984 Chassis/Body Manual that we ordered from Helm. Also installed a new starter and slapped on a new intake manifold gasket for @guerasfj60 who suprised me with the cool little key holder from Toyota.

For those replacing starter, if you decide you'd like a new lower bolt to go along with the upper stud/nut/washer combo, you'll find it's disco. See below for a perfect replacement.

Also, Tarantulas are now in mating season....happened to spot one while on a ride Sunday.

Another valve adjustment and oil change done. Truck has been driving great so I spent my rainy Thanksgiving doing some fun stuff. Clayed, polished and sealed the paint for winter. This is the first time the truck has been clayed in a unknown amount of time and all I have to say is WOW! Don't hate the respray on this thing as much as I used to.

I had planned to order some maximum load stickers from Japan but @Onur had some and was kind enough to mail to me. Thanks!

Also sourced a rear trunk lock assy.....just for the gasket to delete the lock pad. Looks much nicer to me. Gasket is NLA but the lock assembly gives me everything. If anyone wants the new OEM trunk lock assembly and brand new set of matching keys, PM me. I don't need it.

Just read from page 1, I think I started at some point in the past and lost my place. Great build. I enjoy all the part numbers and storytelling.

Now I can’t stop staring at the rear hatch lock without trim around it.

It's the best! If you want one...its pricey...with the lock assembly, but available.

Started disassembly and installation of 62 dash into the truck. Very straight forward. Once dash pad and bezel arrive from Toyota I’ll be wrapping this up.
Found a few mud wasp nests...cleaned and started putting new foam into ac ducts. For anyone interested in dash swap, once I’m done I’ll put up what was needed officially for swap. Also adding Pioneer multimedia....because I’m a princess and want wireless car play and a screen. Might even add back up camera one day. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That’s a good sign that I made the right decision! How’s wireless mirroring/car play?

The wireless CarPlay is great, I got it for precisely that reason. My only two issues are:

1. Depending on the sunglasses you use, it can be difficult to see the screen with them on. My oakleys are the worst, but my Costa’s are fine. Not a major issue to me, but kind of annoying.

2. Sometimes the wireless CarPlay links to my phone automatically (and FAST when it does) and sometimes it requires me to select my phone from the list. That’s an easy task though, but it requires the car to be stationary. I upgraded my iPhone 7 to a XR and noticed an improvement. I’m not convinced it’s the HU, could be because my phone stays connected to the home WiFi, need to look into it more.

There’s a glare in bright sunlight but honestly I don’t find it any worse then most car screens.

I used the one in the 62 daily for three months before I ordered and installed the other two units so clearly these issues weren’t major to me.

@mattressking
"And installed a 150 primary jet. Runs well, was a little lean with the 147 so I popped her in and she's been good so far"
What was your timing? Did this solve your pinging totally?
& love the build.
