Still driving the truck, nothing notable going on, just adding miles. Hoping a @FJ40Jim smog delete pulley remedies my belt squeal. If it does I have to do some comparison with my SOR pulley...And installed a 150 primary jet. Runs well, was a little lean with the 147 so I popped her in and she's been good so far. Haven't picked up new plugs to look more intently, its on the list. Along with deciding what I want to get done before SAS #3.

Rebuilding a carb for a local here in CA and hope to see it on his rig in the next few weeks and got to see the progress of my coworkers 40 which is finally back from paint (years in the making). It is now coming together quick.

Otherwise, been busy with life and my other hobby....motorcycles....getting more seat time at the track. Had a friend in town so we ventured over to a very neatly organized Porsche exhibition at Universal Studios backlot.

Of course you went to Luftgekühlt. I've got a few friends that made the trip from the East Coast to attend with so other friends that live in LA. I couldn't make the trip and im so bummed!

Have you been to previous years? This was my first and was really impressed. Funny to see more east coast people travel to this, I also saw a few friends flew out for it as well from the east.

Pulled the truck off the road for a clutch job. Oil pan gasket, RMS, Pilot Bearing, Clutch, Flywheel Resurface, TO bearing, Input shaft seal and gasket and general cleaning. Pleasant surprise that after cleaning out the starter and ground, better voltage at idle and starter responds quicker. Generally found all items in good shape and reassembly went smooth. I did find that the oil pan job wasn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be? Not sure, maybe I was lucky because it setup perfectly and didn't require and snapups or anything to set it in place. Still using original pan...doesn't leak so I won't change it until the spot welds start leaking....though a new pan is always tempting.

Last but not least...I bought a new bike to daily so I can leave the truck in the garage and not rush to wrap up jobs now. It's a 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE....its pretty, its everything I could ask for in a bike.

That starter sure looks a lot better.

Nice. I've got an 04 KTM 950 adventure but I need to do a whole bunch of service to it before I can ride it. I've got no workspace right now and miss riding considerably. Your scrambler looks great.

I dig that KTM! How is maintenance on it? Just regular service/valve adjustments or do they have issues?

Been kinda on a sprint to wrap up oil leaks now that I have a bike thats not my track bike. Did side cover gasket last night. Again, suprisingly easy, just dirty. I spend most of the time cleaning. Curious to see how the book's 35in-lb rating holds up for leaks.

The side cover should not be a pressure oil area so the low torque on the bolts should be fine. If you find that the new gasket is leaking you could pull the cover off, clean all the mating metal surfaces really well so they are oil free and dry, clean the gasket well and then get some loctite 518 (think its called permatex 518 now)....its an anerobic sealant...sort of red translucent color...smells surprisingly good :)cautious:). Apply a thin bead to both sides of the gasket and smear it flat with your fingers so its just a thin coating across both surfaces. Then reassemble. If any squegees out wipe it off with a rag. That should seal it up nicely.

I've had good luck running cork gaskets without, not a fan of unnecessary sealant. Whoever did the gasket before loved sealant. Loved it.

I like 518 sealant...but its got to be used sparingly and key to success is clean surfaces and just a micro thin layer of the stuff. Far too many people out there seem to think that sealant should be applied to everything and applied as if a full tube/inch is almost enough.

I gotta do my pan gasket a third time as it still leaks. I’m going to try it with virtually no sealant this time. Just waiting to get my money right to go see Georg and pick up an H55.

You make everything look easy.

Cool bike too. My last motorcycle was a Speed Triple that I wrecked doing wheelies some years ago. Love those English bikes. Now I’ve got scooters for fun around town. A Vespa 150 and an 86 Honda Elite 250. Meep meep. Best way to be a tourist in San Francisco is on one of those.

I had luck with only sealant on the corners per the fsm, torque to 65in-lbs then circled back a few days later to 85in-lbs. So far she's dry. Now I have to seal up the timing cover gasket now that everything else is sealed up.

Prepping for SAS #3. Figured if I'm getting new wheels and tires, I might as well get it done before. I think I've annoyed @POTATO LAUNCHER and @NookShneer enough with my constant back and forth. Went with 80 series steel and the new KM3s....hopefully the KM3s come in before the weekend. Also went with fresh lug nuts and valve stems from Toyota, couldn't continue having 19mm lug nuts and an unusable oem lug wrench.

Thanks to @Onur for the part number as well.

Wee bit of SAS3 prep.

80 series steel wrapped with 315/75r16 KM3s. They are quiet for MT's i'd say almost no different than my KO2s. Mudflaps can stay except for wheeling, they will rub as is if flexed and mid turn.

@RAGINGMATT came through with a much needed radio knob for the factory radio. Besides the knob he was generous enough to include OEM speakers and wiring harnesses which are such a treat to see in my hands. Thanks so much! (PS don't mind the messy table, rebuilding some carbs for a '77 R100RS.)

Before, during and after for comparison.

love this build

35's on a 60 is the right balance for street driveability and offroad performance with and minimal mods and Cruiser axles in my opinion.. good choice

How much lift do you have again? You're going to get some rubbing issues offroad under articulation and steering but it's not too bad. I ran the same tires with blown out 2.5" springs that were pretty much stock height.
