I'm having my new set of 285 Revos put on in the morning. $821 for a set of 5, mounted, balanced, out the door. It's another $125 for the road hazard warranty. It's supposed to cover off road damage and be pretty painless. If one goes bad and the diameter isn't in spec to replace just one tire, they say they'll pro-rate the other tires to put a matched set on.

Anybody have experience with the Bridgestone/Firestone RH warranty? It sounds pretty similar to the Discount Tire certs. I know there are people who weigh in on the relative merit of any sort of insurance like this, but I'm really looking for experiences with this company. People who like the Discount certs seem to REALLY like it and have had good experiences.

I've beat the crap out of my Toyo ATs in just a few offroad trips, and I really haven't done anything all that hardcore. I'm not excited about spending $900 on tires again for a very long time.

I used my warranty on my Revos within three thousand miles of purchasing them. I was wheeling and slashed the sidewall on one tire. As I remember I pretty much had to purchase the new warranty on the new tire (~$20 IIRC) and then the new mount and balance and stuff. All together it was close to 40 dollars to get the tire replaced. BTW, I told them it was from wheeling and they could care less. HTH.

Turbo,

How are you liking the Revos now? You've had them awhile and I was looking at old posts when you got yours. I'm thinking strongly about not getting Michelins for the first time in a really long time for the grocery getter (still loving the Coopers year round on my 80) and the Revos are atop my list. Comments on wear, road manners, foul weather, etc?

Doug, Overall I love em, I will link to a thread I started some time ago about the Revos getting ripped up. So far there is no more damage than there was and I think it is just what the softest most exposed edges of tread does under abuse! Anyways they give the grip I want on all the surfaces I roll over and they are extremely predictable at the limit; they will bark before they bite in other words.

Thanks - great info. It does sound like you're spinning them against various surfaces and no civilian tire is going to take that. The top layer of rubber gets heated too high too fast to dissipate it into the tire or into the air and either gets hard and chunks off or separates off a bit at the micro level. Tires for competition that are designed to only run well when hot can take it due to different rubber formulation. Maybe you need a water cooling system for the tires??.....<grin>..
