It looks like it has been a while since there was a thread pertaining to brake controllers specifically so here we go.

I saw that the Prodigy controller are highly regarded here and elsewhere. The P3 was mentioned often.

Is that still what folks are liking? I am going to be using this on my 60 and on a 40 pulling a 5x8' cargo trailer (2900lbs max total, 1000lb empty)

I spotted this listing that seems to be a significantly better price than elsewhere:

Tekonsha P3 Electric Brake Control Controller RV Camper - $114.99..

Thoughts?

A second question.

When I originally had a controller installed I had no idea there were different types and... of course, the trailer place installed a "timed" controller.

Is it likely that I can use most of the same wiring if I go for a P3 or comparable accelerometer unit?

wiring 'should' be the same...and I run nothing but Tekonsha products....original Prodigy currently in my DMax, and it's wonderful.

I run the P3 and its awesome !!

Still like my Prodigy. My original one belonged to my scout troop and now that I'm not as active and don't tow the scouts trailer, just mine, I picked up my own. Already had the cradle and wiring. Found one online out of Kentucy or Tennessee somewhere for around $95 IIRC, complete kit.

Quick ? On wiring the controller. I have a 4 pin and bought a 4-7 Adapter. How many lines do I run to the rear of the vehicle? I know what I need to power the controller, but I didn't know if I need one line(blue) for the controller to plug and that's it. Or do I also need a direct wire with fuse from the battery directly to the 7pin plug in rear?

The four pin has four wires, Green- right side brake and signal; Yellow- left side brake and signal; Brown- running lights; White-ground. The seven pin has the same four colors doing the same thing plus a Blue for electric brakes and Red for power to recharge the break-a-way safety battery and another space for a back up light wire. As usual, YMMV with regard to the brake and power wires, but the basic Green, Yellow, Brown and White are industry standard in the U.S.

Edit: You will need a 7 pin female on your tow vehicle to match up the plugs and get the brakes to work.
